A young family recorded a scary encounter with a bear during a hiking trip in Whistler, in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
This footage...shows a bear stalking the family along a hiking path. Peachey can be heard saying “do not run” to her child and husband who are walking slowly away from the animal.
The couple then shouts and waves their arms in an attempt to scare the bear off.
In an Instagram post Peachey said, “We later learned they’ve had to close this area multiple times because of this bears increasing aggressive behavior”.

If they had food in their day packs they should have thrown it out so the bear would stop and eat it.
Because bear bells are for other people. Idiots.
Or, just kill the bear.
It is clearly a danger to humans.
I’ve read that this is no longer recommended - because the bears have learned that they get food when they stalk the hikers.
Correct.
The bear was stalking food in their packs
In the animal world, predators prefer to hunt the young of any prey animal since the young are the easiest to catch without injury to themselves.
That bear needs to be a rug yesterday.
Video at source. They did recognize the bear was simply using the trail, not pursuing them. The best part, they young boy, Can we play dead now? Can we play dead?, later dad You wanted to see a bear
Doubt it would matter, looks like a mountain trail, they bear was just following it. Easiest route up.
Canadians can’t carry?
Only as a necessity for work, with a permit. Without the permit you can’t take it out of your home, concealed or not. Other, I presume, to go to a range or armorer. Of course they’re in the process of banning handgun sales, imo since handguns are registered they won’t be owned by citizens much longer.
Wife and I had a grizzly bear encounter last August in Glacier. Early in the morning, we were walking a paved trail around Swifcurrent Lake near Many Glacier Hotel. As we rounded a curve, there was a mature griz about 20 yards away, headed toward us. Not running, but walking at a good pace.
I can tell you my attention was complete and undivided.
Turned to my wife behind me and we quickly surrendered the trail and went uphill into the woods. The bear kept on going along the trail.
When you see such an animal in the wild - not behind bars in a zoo - and he’s headed toward you, you will remember that sight from now on.
Too bad Canadians aren’t allowed to defend themselves with guns. I took my little hiking buddy (my Black Lab) hiking with me a month ago. A Black bear crossed the trail about 20 yards in front of us. I felt so much better knowing my gun was in my pocket and if he had started to come at us, I would have lit his azz up like a Christmas tree. That’s not an option for Canadians.
They can carry long guns.
Yup.
Lol I like that!
Years ago a buddy convinced Canadian customs that having a can of wasp spray was OK because he couldn’t get any bear spray. The customs guy told him “that crap doesn’t work anyhow” and sent them through.
