Wife and I had a grizzly bear encounter last August in Glacier. Early in the morning, we were walking a paved trail around Swifcurrent Lake near Many Glacier Hotel. As we rounded a curve, there was a mature griz about 20 yards away, headed toward us. Not running, but walking at a good pace.

I can tell you my attention was complete and undivided.

Turned to my wife behind me and we quickly surrendered the trail and went uphill into the woods. The bear kept on going along the trail.

When you see such an animal in the wild - not behind bars in a zoo - and he’s headed toward you, you will remember that sight from now on.
