Cruise stocks were tumbling to their lowest point since 2020 on Thursday as fears intensified over rising inflation and a potential recession.
Fueling the selloff were concerns that consumers will be curbing discretionary spending in response to rising prices and economic uncertainty. There’s also an uptick in Covid-19 cases that may be increasing consumer reluctance to hop on a cruise. The seven-day moving average for known Covid-19 cases has hovered around 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and likely is higher amid an increased reliance on at-home testing kits that don’t get reported to public officials.
Already, cruise lines have experienced pricing declines from May to June, indicating that bookings may be eroding, according to early June data from Bank of America Securities. BofA analyst Andrew Didora views the slowdown as “more specific to the cruise industry than a larger read to the leisure consumer,” given further Covid-19 pressures, ongoing pushes to ramp up capacity, and difficulty attracting consumers who are new to cruising.
Didora said he expects further pricing weakness ahead for 2023 and 2024, with prices declining 2.6%, on average, for all three major cruise lines.
“Cruise lines have been at the center of the pandemic, and the profit recovery continues to be delayed given the different variants,” Didora wrote. “This is happening at a time when the market is already factoring in a strong recovery. Given that the industry has taken on considerable amounts of debt in the past year, a long road ahead remains to de-lever and return to pre-pandemic balance sheets.”
That could be even more challenging if the economy plunges into a recession, which is becoming even more likely as the Federal Reserve moves to increase interest rates at a faster-than-expected pace.

I booked an October cruise yesterday which did not require a vax. Just an attestation statement of not being vaccinated. There is testing before boarding and once during the cruise. Big deal.
As you know, the ships out of the US are FULL!! At least the Celebrity and Royal ones we’ve been on this past year....9......suites TOTALLY full also!
“Carnival doubled down and requires boosters now instead of just quitting demanding passengers are jabbed”
I don’t see that on my current Carnival cruise booking. Just a vaccination claim. Nothing about boosters.
“Are you, or will you be fully vaccinated with a WHO or FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before boarding? (Fully vaccinated is you received the final dose of a vaccine series at least 14 days before embarkation.)”

It’s a shame that you believe the anti-vaxxer propaganda about this being experimental (it’s not, it’s fully approved) and that it’s gene therapy (that has been debunked numerous times). You could be enjoying cruising now.

Because I believe in the protection provided by the vaccines, I would not, voluntarily, have anything to do with a business that requires masks.
The unfortunate thing is that some cruise lines are implementing these mask mandates with no prior notice and often within final payment where refunds will not be provided.
Still I wonder if this is a cruise line policy or if a foreign port is demanding masks.
“The ships are at better than 90% capacity right now. So the vaccination doesn’t seem to be bothering many people.
What is gonna get them is the rising cost of food and fuel.”
And other problems. -Tom
Well you can add at least 2 more.
We choose not to cruise as long as the testing or injections are required.
None of the drugs that have been approved are on the market. All of the so called vaccines that are on the market are operating under an emergency use authorization.
You sir, are a Guinea pig whether you wish to admit it or not.
If you “believe” in drugs then you’re gambling.
Try reading the clinical studies, disclosures, and the MSDS that are mandated for approved drugs. Good luck finding the MSDS on mRNA.
I would have had to be boostered for the TA on the Celebration in October so I cancelled ..
all the Pride cruises need boosters and any longter ceuises in the Caribean ..
We booked on the Jubilee for next years TAS but if they require boosters in 2023 my friends arent going either ...
Were all diamonds and stayed faithful through all the cancellations 2020/21 but Carnival didnt treat us well later ...
Ive had cruises cancelled by carnival because Im not jabbed ...
In their records they claim I was just denied an exemption request ...
I never requested an exemption but they refuse to change their records because they cant refuse me their business due to no jabs ...
Florida Covid laws ...

Is there something about identical to and interchangeable with that confuses you?
MercyFlush wrote: “If you “believe” in drugs then you’re gambling.”
So we can add you to the list of anti-vaxxers?

Took less than 5 seconds to find this:

“So we can add you to the list of anti-vaxxers?”
Stop being such a simple minded tool. I’ve had plenty of actual vaccines and I am grateful for them.
The last one I had was for pneumonia. But for years I’d put it off because while I want the vaccine I did not want the following additives in my vaccines:
1. Mercury (in any form)
2. Eggs
3. Peanut oil
4. Latex
Then my doctor contacts me and tells me they have a new vax for pneumonia that satisfied my requirements. I studied up on it, read the clinical trials (which had NO allergic reactions), and read the MSDS to confirm the list of ingredients. And then I got the shot.
mRNA itself is NOT a ‘vaccine’.
mRNA is a method of delivery for genetic modification. Prior to COVID this was accepted fact.
Here’s a bunch of pre-COVID medical/scientific articles on the topic:
Everything after 2020 about mRNA is tainted by political agendas and I do not trust it. You can if you wish but please don’t waste your time with me. No way in hell will I take this shot and anyone who tries to force me to get it does so at their own peril.
“Is there something about identical to and interchangeable with that confuses you?”
Then explain to me why the J&J mRNA shot was removed from the market if it was “identical to and interchangeable with” or does that confuse you?
MercyFlush wrote: “Then explain to me why the J&J mRNA shot was removed from the market if it was “identical to and interchangeable with” or does that confuse you?”
You are confused. The J&J was not mRNA. It was partially removed from the market due to some rare blood clotting issues. It is still available but restricted to adults who are unable or unwilling to take either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccines.
One of the more popular myths about the Pfizer vaccines is that it has not been fully approved but is still under an EUA. The full approval renamed the Pfizer vaccine to “Comirnaty”. The vaccine produced under the EUA is still available and will be until all the EUA stocks are used. The vaccine produced under the EUA is ‘identical to and interchangeble’ with Comirnaty. I’ve yet to encounter anyone who can explain how two things can be ‘identical and interchangeable’ and still be differen.
Does any freeper have first hand knowledge as to whether cruisers are being assessed any fuel surcharge ?
“We choose not to cruise as long as the testing or injections are required.”
Choose not to be punished being unvax. Make me buy insurance that vaxxed not required to. Crapola.
