The overwhelming evidence present in the public domain today strongly suggests that the United States of America will separate into two countries in less than fifty years.
Here is the scenario concept. The conservative and progressive sides of America today see each other as a lifeguard and a drowning victim. Neither side will keep the other from drowning when push comes to shove. The only option is for the lifeguard to let go of the drowning victim. This event is the physical separation. The conceptual separation has been playing out for about three decades.
The topics of abortion, gun rights, balanced budgets, central bank digital currencies, immigration, and free speech, either alone or together, can all be set aside with assurance they are not the reasons for the pending dissolution of the country. The single reason for the U.S. going into parts is free choice.
The U.S. will not change to a bordered country such as the Soviet Union, since geography has 50% of its border bound by water and the other 50% absent of both a northern and southern border. Ask Canada and Mexico how immigration control is going for them lately. It is unlikely there will be mass deporting of citizens due to the risk of those deported coming back with a vengeance, helped by whatever country accepts them. Ask Germany and Russia how that worked out for them during World War II.
A recent venture capitalist article indicates how geography, demographics, and capitalism intersect to likely help form the two new countries.
A country needs two tangible components to survive: trade and defense. Trade for all material things necessary to exist in both war and peace. Defense for continuance during and after an armed conflict.

An American divorce is coming and I welcome it. The divide between those who adhere to the Constitution and time of law and those who only believe in relativism is too big, too wide and far too ideologically different to ever be brought back together.
the divorce and migration is already happening and completely unexpected. People want to live and work with those of like mind.
It could all be fixed if we return to Republicanism. ALL POWER RESIDES IN THE PEOPLE AND THE STATES, they lend certain powers to the Feds. LEND THEM....read the 10th amendment. Senators appointed by the States. 1 Congressional Representative per 30,000 people is good enough, change it to 10 per State. Make it unappealing politically for people to jam into major cities for power. Let the Congress be deadlocked in debate, it is the best thing that could happen. The power MUST reside in the hands of We the People.
The divide is not geographical but one of urban vs rural. Do you plan on doing forced population relocation?
The country was formed by States ceding CERTAIN powers to the Federal level voluntarily. There are certainly grounds to sue on breach of contract, and voluntarily go their own way. Lincold destroyed Federalism to save it, it is time to go back to originalism.
The Russian professor had the right idea. He was slightly off on which states and where. But it would look something like that.
If the Confederates would have split off successfuly, who’s to say when other nations began trying to take control, that they not petition to rejoin The Union? If it is your right to remove yourself from a contract, you can come back into it with slightly different guarantees and responsibilities.
Liberals from Austin would relocate to L.A., S.F., Portland or Seattle.
Romney is toast, it will just take a smart candidate to paint him as a crazy libtard.
Maybe God has a plan for the Coastlands? I can find it in the Bible quite easily. “Woe to them that dwell in the Coastlands”.... I live in that approximate area, but getting ready to move to Free America.
Nope. It’s already happening and will continue to voluntarily.
And if they don’t, do you force them?
If they stay do you deprive them of the right to vote?
The US is in for a major trauma when China becomes top nation. Splitting up the country would bring that day closer and make everything worse.
We have been top power so long that we no longer realize the great material and psychological advantages that position gives us.
Maybe it's our fate to live in smaller countries -- more like Europe -- but it's not something we're used to, and we may not cope with it very well.
So urban centers are migratory ?
The South fought the largest army in the world for four years and lost but had they won they would have suddenly been gobbled up by a European power. Yeah riiiight...
Nothing was “settled” 160 years ago. Nothing.
I’d rather have my freedom than be top dog.
You will always be complaining about something.
because the North then, and now, are against states rights.
The CSA would have been retarded to willingly rejoin.
If they were being hounded by other countries, You think El Norte would have let them in at the same level they were before, or at an advantage?
No. They would have rejoined and had worse tyranny then before.
Exactly my point. The article was vapid for not facing the probability.
People are migratory. Both urban, suburban and rural.
