The overwhelming evidence present in the public domain today strongly suggests that the United States of America will separate into two countries in less than fifty years.
Here is the scenario concept. The conservative and progressive sides of America today see each other as a lifeguard and a drowning victim. Neither side will keep the other from drowning when push comes to shove. The only option is for the lifeguard to let go of the drowning victim. This event is the physical separation. The conceptual separation has been playing out for about three decades.
The topics of abortion, gun rights, balanced budgets, central bank digital currencies, immigration, and free speech, either alone or together, can all be set aside with assurance they are not the reasons for the pending dissolution of the country. The single reason for the U.S. going into parts is free choice.
The U.S. will not change to a bordered country such as the Soviet Union, since geography has 50% of its border bound by water and the other 50% absent of both a northern and southern border. Ask Canada and Mexico how immigration control is going for them lately. It is unlikely there will be mass deporting of citizens due to the risk of those deported coming back with a vengeance, helped by whatever country accepts them. Ask Germany and Russia how that worked out for them during World War II.
A recent venture capitalist article indicates how geography, demographics, and capitalism intersect to likely help form the two new countries.
A country needs two tangible components to survive: trade and defense. Trade for all material things necessary to exist in both war and peace. Defense for continuance during and after an armed conflict.

If it were to split, I think it would be three countries, East Coast, West Coast, and everything else
Yeah, they can have Greenland.
We should be split into 5 or six confederations of states.
If the South had been allowed to peacefully secede in 1860, that’s where we’d be today.
And, far, far better off, I might add.
. The most that could happen, barring total dissolution of the country, would be an arrangement like France, where there are urban islands of elitists surrounded by a ring of barbarians, and the rest a rural hinterland. Sort of works, but not well.
In the US, only a mass abandonment of national identity could suffice to dissipate the current passions. “globalists” with no allegiance to anyone but themselves, such as we are seeing with major corporations and their mandarins, would ally with foreign hegemons of convenience, mostly Chinese, by present context.
The remainder of us, “Americans,” would be shadows of former selves, nominally a country but held in economic bondage by the global financial, cultural and governmental entities.
The author doesn’t seem to see the forest for the trees.
He lists all the cultural/value issues that divide the Left and Right, but then says that none of them are responsible for dissolution. Instead it’s all pinned on the nebulous concept of “free choice”.
He then follows that nonsense up with statements about how the US will not “change to a bordered country”. If not, then how can the so-called “country” prevent people from simply moving into it and changing its culture/values. Having borders with an enforceable immigration policy is one of the primary (if not THE primary) planks in the conservative movement. How will the conservative citizens of this new country deal with the cognitive dissonance of that?
It would take a Russian professor to theorize that Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, and the Carolinas would be in the same confederation as the northeastern states.
Nice try.
Rubbish. If the South had been allowed to peacefully secede in 1860, it would have been gobbled up by France and Great Britain. You posers would be speaking French or Cajun or some such argot.
At the rate of blue invasion, it wont take time.
Uh, NO!
Canaduh has become a fascist State.
No way any part of the US joins up with that dumpster fire.
It would be several countries and that may happen sooner than you think.
What some russky thinks? He has no clur.
Arizona and maybe New Mexico would go with Texas, as would Utah and maybe others.
I take it you didn’t read his analysis of the cause and why. That is valid.
Drugs and too much vodka.
Things are what they are and I do wish America to end as it is. It is a banana republic with a corrupt state police (FBI) and a corrupt judiciary. If it doesn't end it will be because it has become a full blown dictatorship and Americans will be under house arrest or in detention camps.
It's a damn shame some sort of legal negotiating process hasn't been started already to facilitate a peaceful breakup. Without that, the breakup is likely going to be violent and bloody. That I don't want. I also don't want to live in fear of the state police smashing my door and hauling me off to an American Lubyanka. Which has already happened in DC a la Jan 6.
I’ve gone through very extensive therapy to recover from being a “ poser “.
At the moment, I’m enduring the night sweats. It’s terrible. :)
Why would I bother?
How does something like this ever happen?
Would states try to secede from the union? Would groups of states try to secede from the union?
Would our union dissolve, similar to how the Soviet Union dissolved? As I recall, the countries in the Soviet Union collectively decided to go their own ways, and the Soviet Union was disbanded. A corresponding event in America would need states to decide to dissolve our union, right?
As I understand it, the constitution has provisions for adding new states, but no provision for states to leave the union.
Which brings us back to how would this, legally and constitutionally, ever be able to occur?
That’s stupid. No way Idaho or Utah will follow the west coast idiots into oblivion. More likely, Washington, Oregon, and California will be split in two.
