The Dec. 9, 2023 game will be the first time the historic rivalry is played in Massachusetts. It will be hosted in the Boston area in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. The Dec. 12, 2026 game in East Rutherford will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
“Our destinations over the next five years provide the academies with an opportunity to share the economic impact, history and tradition of Army-Navy with a number of communities in diverse geographic areas," Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk said in a news release. "We are certain that each location will present a uniquely accommodating experience for our fans and will make for an incredibly memorable event for our midshipmen and cadets. Our gratitude goes out to all the cities that showed interest and congratulations to the recipients of the games.”
The most common site of the game has been Philadelphia, with 90 of the 123 meetings taking place there — including the upcoming 2022 game. New York state has hosted the game 15 times, Maryland 10 times, New Jersey six and Illinois and California once each. In 2020, when it looked like COVID-19 could shut down the season, Army and Navy still planned to play each other, even if was the only college football game that fall. The season happened, but the game was played at West Point, the first time the rivalry took place on one of the campuses since 1943.
The rivalry dates back to 1890. Navy leads the all-time series 62-53-7, winning 19 of the past 25, including last year’s game, but Army has won four of the past six amid a program resurgence.
CBS Sports has the broadcast rights for the Army-Navy game through 2028.
They consider a number of sites, all in the northeast, as being diverse geographic areas?????
Wasnt that when a bunch of white European racist squatters culturally appropriated their native indian slave apparel and makeup?
And they were cis-gendered, too!
You should go at least to one. Hubby is Class of ‘73. The weather can be brutal. I have frozen, melted and everything in between. We are the oldsters now.
I guess not.
Since they bus the students to the games, they have to be reasonably close to USNA and West Point.
My granddaughters, USNA 2024, first bus ride was 89 busses from USNA to West Point.
