Cats were seen as omens in ancient times but eventually became trusted animal companions to those who sailed the seas. From catching rats at docks and on ships at sea, cats often became mascots to the navies around the globe. Filled with informative text and more than eighty photos, Cats in the Navy provides a fun history of our feline friends who rode the waves with us.

A very entertaining book with lots of great photos of cats serving on ships - some cats even had uniforms and tiny hammocks like the other sailors. The book is also packed full of surprising facts about cats and their role on ships, which was much more than just chasing rodents.

While archeologists claim dog was the first animal domesticated by man, I believe it was because dogs were useful both as a beast of burden and as a food source.
Cats, OTOH, were domesticated many years later when man moved from hunter/gatherer to agriculture. They charmed their way into our hearts by catching rodents who fed off the grain we stored.

Nice tribute to the Grumman Iron Works. You missed the F-11F Tiger though.

    we appreciate your comment but
cats have never, ever been domesticated
rather, they domesticate their servants (”owners”)
