Bethesda and Microsoft revealed yet another look at the ambitious “Skyrim in space” RPG Starfield during the two companies’ joint presentation today. This time, it was much more than eight seconds, and featured actually gameplay.
After some preamble, Xbox boss Phil Spencer introduced a short Starfield sizzle reel before director Todd Howard took to the stage to show off the game in action. What was previewed looked like an amalgam between Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky and Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds, with the character mining rocks for resources and navigating a seemingly desolate planet. The character then gets into a combat encounter, pulling out an automatic rifle to shoot up some space-faring goons before the video cuts to the hub world.
The showcase also gave a glimpse at the character creator, which is highly customizable. You can tweak how you look, the way your character plays and develops throughout the game, and the various attributes that affect your gear. You can also adjust a ship, recruit crewmates, and blast that thing off into space to engage in dogfighting or cargo transport. Or both.

Can’t wait for the oodles of masculine women characters who ooze more testosterone in an hour than Barack Obama his whole life and gender balanced raiders and rape gangs!
Well they usually have minimalist spacesuits and big... well, maybe not anymore. I don’t like the “new normal”.
I would not be surprised if much of our navy is not running
Windows for Warships
No, really:
The Type 45 destroyers now being launched will run Windows for Warships: and that’s not all. The attack submarine Torbay has been retrofitted with Microsoft-based command systems, and as time goes by the rest of the British submarine fleet will get the same treatment, including the Vanguard class (V class). The V boats carry the UK’s nuclear weapons and are armed with Trident ICBMs, tipped with multiple H-bomb warheads.
And here’s a related story about a software bug in the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter. It seems that the computer systems had problems flying West across the International Date Line. No word as to what operating system the computers were running.
EDITED TO ADD (2/27): Here’s a related article from 1998, involving Windows NT and the USS Yorktown.
(although I liked windows 2000 a lot at the time which is what was used for these deployments, I currently run 2012r2 on most of my systems)
Doubt you’ll find that in a Bethesda game, but there’s probably some developer out there who can serve that up for you.
Actually they do have tons of female raiders roughing it in the wilderness and rail thin female guards running around in plate armor inexplicably in post apocalyptic and medieval settings with the ratio moving toward 50% in recent games. To be fair this is the new standard. Of the major studios only Rockstar still makes an effort to preserve suspension of disbelief on this front and even that may be going to the wayside.
Take my money. I’m a decade-long EVE Online player, and if this steers away from woke or SJW BS, then I’m all in.

I don’t think we’ll see thousand ship space battles.
Who doesn’t love time dilation? Been there, done that, hated it.
Still waiting for them to bring back “Descent 2”.

I musunderstood. It sounded like you were looming for pervy stuf.
Agreed, but even if they do, you can probably change all of that garbage pretty easily. Bethesda has a history of releasing an extensive set of modding tools with games based on this game engine and I expect they will this time as well.
