No Effect from “Red Flag” Law in California: JAMA Study
AmmoLand ^ | June 9, 2022 | Dean Weingarten

On April 5, 2022, the JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) Network Open published a study attempting to find a reduction in firearms fatal and non-fatal injuries associated with the very aggressive implementation of a “Red Flag” law, also known as a gun violence restraining order or GVRO, in San Diego County, California.

The results surprised and appear to have shocked them. No statistical association existed, although the data was the most comprehensive to date, and the study was designed to find such an association.

No such association existed.

The study was funded by various contributions from philanthropic and government sources.  Dr. Garen Wintemute is the most well-known of the authors. It appears most of the analysis was done by Dr. Veronica A. Pear.

Author Contributions: Dr Pear had full access to all of the data in the study and takes responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysis.

It is clear the authors expected to find a statistically significant drop in fatal and non-fatal firearm injuries, both from assault and self-harm. If there were an association, this study had the best chance to find it.  From the abstract:

Red Flag laws have no measurable effect in California.

So, by Leftist logic, we need more of them!

Yup. Obvious need to strengthen the existing ones. Maybe add a couple more while they’re at it. 😵‍💫

When Red Flag was implemented in CO then first victim was a county sheriff the lefties hated.

This basically sums up what knee jerk gun control legislation is really about:

“Progressives have never valued due process or limited government. Because the Second Amendment limits what governments are allowed to do, antipathy to the Second Amendment is in Progressive DNA.”

These people do not care if scarce tax money was better spent on women’s shelters or youth crisis intervention initiatives or many other things that deal with criminal violence regardless of the weapon used. This is about legitimizing what they want to do as mentioned in the above quote.

When you understand that the goal is only to take guns away from people, you see it works just fine.

Off the top of my head I think it was the Weld County sheriff. I’ll have to look it up.

Red flag advocates are really stupoid people. Gun owners in States with red flag laws simply store them in their relatives` or neighbors` or other people`s houses. Duuuhhhh even a 3rd grader can figure out how to get around this stupid law. My cat is smarter than these morons. These people do not even know that the British tried to do this too in 1775? They are reaallyy stupod people.

Since all of these shooters seem to be “known to authorities”, then haven’t they, already, in a way, been red-flagged? What is the point of giving authorities a head’s up when they can’t do anything about it anyway?

"Known to authorities" is not sufficient to lock someone up or to violate their rights.

I would be surprised if everyone who posts on freerepublic isn't "known to authorities".

Thank you.
It wouldn’t surprise me.
Anyone who can’t see how stupid and dangerous Red Flag laws could be should not be allowed out of the house

I predict that shortly we will see these orders being issued on the basis of social media posts that are conservative or criticize the government in any way. Or just on the basis of disinformation.

Red Flag laws are only good for pissed of Ex's and liberal neighbors to cause trouble.

The actual threats are never acted on.

Keywords are “further study is needed....”

AFAIC, JAMA lost all credibility with me and many others in their obedience to the Pharma/Govt Dark Force wrt to Covid 19 vaccinations. They mean nothing.

That is amazing. Good for the judge
But it definitely shows how useless red flag laws are and how they can be manipulated

thanks for finding it

So Red Flag laws have no measurable effect in CA. I guess they didn’t look at real consequences of Red Flag laws. Just by virtue of having a law on the books leftists argue those laws had an effect. I write of the growing number of people that agree people’s rights should be revoked without a crime and due process. There are even people on Free Republic that think this is okay. I know. I have argued with them. Nothing more than scared pussies that do not value freedom and are unwilling to take personal responsibility while to giving responsibility to government. Choke on your face diapers, pussies.
