The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

I remember that exact feeling ….. one night (when I was much younger and we were more adventurous) my husband and I participated in a midnight sailboat race on a huge lake in Alabama.
