TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Bonita Springs man cashed in his top prize-winning scratch-off ticket worth $25 million from the Florida lottery.

George Demetriades claimed his $25 million prize at the Lottery’s Fort Myers District Office on May 11.

Demetriades bought his 500x THE CASH scratch-off ticket from the Circle K located at 10460 Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs. The retailer will also receive a $50,000 bonus commission for selling Demetriades the Scratch-Off ticket.

Well, I certainly hope he isn’t a fool with those winnings, as so many are.

I wonder if it was one of those $20 tickets. Or do they have $25 ones now?

Just looked it up. Those "500x THE CASH" scratch-off tickets are $50 each! I didn't know the prices had reached that level. Been over a decade since I even looked at a scratch-off ticket display.

Wow! Florida Man had a good day for a change.

I’ll brace myself for the news of what happens when Florida Man has $25 million dollars to spend.

The guy is supposedly 80 so I looked up payment options out of curiosity and found the following at the Florida Lottery site. No real details. I don’t have time to dig any further. I see they withhold 24% for federal taxes.

“The cash option is a one-time, lump-sum payment that jackpot winners may choose to receive instead of receiving their winnings in 30 annual payments for FLORIDA LOTTO®, and 25 annual payments for JACKPOT TRIPLE PLAY™. Jackpot winners who want to receive a single cash payment must claim their prizes within the first 60 days after the draw date. Applicable federal income tax withholding will be deducted at the time payments are made for cash option and annual payments alike.

The cash option amount is not based on a set percentage, but rather is the amount required on the day of the drawing to purchase securities to fund the announced guaranteed deferred payment value of the jackpot prize paid over 30 years or 25 years, depending on the game. For FLORIDA LOTTO, and JACKPOT TRIPLE PLAY annual payment options, the Lottery will purchase U.S. treasury strips which will guarantee equal payments to the winner over a period of 30 years or 25 years, again depending on the game.”
