There really are societal root causes for rising violence and criminality: When it comes to fixing them, though, the problem is that the "do something" Democrats aren't looking in the right place.

As the nation goes through its periodic soul-searching as to the causes of recent mass shootings, I fail to see one major factor discussed.

This factor is the gradual weakening of consequences for bad behavior to the point of threatening the very fabric of society. The latest manifestations of this can be seen in the refusal to prosecute not only minor, but major infractions of the law in a significant number of cities. But what are the origins of these relaxed attitudes?

I was an elementary school teacher for 40 years. Starting in the mid-1970s, the various school districts I worked for took a "different" approach to discipline. In a matter of a few years, it became almost impossible to apply any meaningful punishment to any child, no matter how disruptive or, in many cases, violent the child was.

A generation of children grew up in a culture in which there was little or no penalty for bad behavior, and they learned this lesson well. And why should these disrupters even consider changing their behavior? They were daily rewarded with extra attention and the ability to manipulate and control the learning environment. They were in their element.

One of the purposes of the public educational system is teaching knowledge, but it is not the only one. The other major goal is to civilize and socialize our youths so they may become productive and functioning members of society. For learning to occur, there must be a structured learning environment. The Japanese know this very well, focusing the first few years of school on proper behavior and discipline, with less emphasis on curriculum.

What caused this marked change in school discipline? There was a tsunami of major societal convulsions that came together at the same time.

Major societal convulsions that came together at the same time:

1. the psychological theory that people are the product of their environment, not of their own attitudes.

2. Focus on group statistics rather than individual responsibility. For example, if a school tried to implement disciplinary action based on equal justice under the rules and identifiable groups had statistically greater representation among those disciplined, the system was blamed, not the actions of the individuals.

3. School principals were judged by district superintendents based on political goals, not on how well the students behaved or learned. This change in focus was transmitted to the teachers, who soon realized they would get no support from their administration (a situation similar to that affecting many of our police when trying to maintain law and order).

4. Major changes in society, including the weakening of marriage, the absence of men in many homes, and new progressive theories on childrearing and discipline.

5. Major rejection of both traditional and religious values by the so-called “counterculture.”

Close but no cigar! The Democrat/communists are looking in the right place but only to make up an excuse not to do the obvious.

They are always only concerned with what is good for them and to hell with America.

Even they know you can’t fix what “that” problem actually is. You can’t take entire packs of feral dogs. There is only one way to fix the problem. Out down the feral dogs, and the observing puppies might just learn something from it.

It mostly stems from fatherless homes. Dudes need to just have sex with their wife and stay committed. Worst case scenario, like mom is an addict, then get custody.

I mean obviously women need to wait until marriage too and be discerning.

When few men will date you unless you put out before marriage it does set us up to fail.

Fornication wreaks havoc, who knew.

It is a fate of their own choosing. Democrats have for the last 2-3 years promoted and sanctioned violence in the name of protest, while simultaneously vilifying police whenever they have a chance. In conjunction with most large cities in America being run by ultra liberal DA and judges... the punishment is never fitting the crimes. People walk away with slaps on the wrist for assault..time served for illegal weapons and drugs...early release , well sometimes just because of the color of their skin....and folks cant understand where the violence and moral upheaval is coming from?

Leftists in this country are responsible for more murders and assaults in recent history than all the AR15 killings combined.

What I’ve seen over the last sixty five years..

Back then TV shows were so safe it was called “The national baby sitter.”
Movies were under the Hays Code and most were so safe for kids you could drop them off and not worry.

Then Bobby Kennedy was murdered by a Palestinian immigrant and the media went berserk!
They blamed “violent TV shows, pulp fiction, toy guns and movies which “glorified violence!”
So to keep Federal interference away the TV shows dumbed down to kiddie shows.
Pulp fiction changed their covers, toy guns disappeared from stores,
Movies shown on TV were butchered to remove scenes of “violence”.

But the movie industry got a pass when they said they would replace the Hays Code with a ratings system. “G,M,R,X” was the first.
So with the Hays Code gone, movie makers re-shot scenes adding more blood, gore, guts, and lots of sex to get the now coveted “R” and “X” rating.

It got worse through out the 1970s. Also at this time the mental institutions were closed down, the patients dumped back on the streets. Porn was legalized so comic book publishers began to publish violent porn comics “for adults only” but the kids were reading them.

In the 1980s movies were deluged with serial killer movies hacking young teens. The camera giving us closeups of the most brutal murders, with lots of spurting blood.
Also in the 1980s cable TV made a big comeback and bypassed the FCC rules showing many of these uncut brutal movies all the time.

By the 1990s came the Internet and ultra-violent video games.
I recently saw about ten minutes of an ultra-violent movie for adults but aimed at kids. Dozens of the most violent deaths that would have never been allowed under the Hays Code.

Since those days we have released onto society a whole generation steeped in blood and gore with no moral guidance, who think shooting up a school or night club or church is no different than a video game. Fun!

As I said, fifty three years the TV and movies were blamed. Not a word about the ultra-violent TV and movies today from the news channels today. They only blame guns.

It’s no mystery. No bewildered head scratching.

The left orchestrates it at all levels, has for many decades now.

They still teach “Lord of the Flies” in our public schools (to those kids who can read), but instead of literature, it’s considered instructional.
