A 5.5” barrel? What would that deliver in 300 Blackout, about 1850fps for a 115gr bullet? Doesn’t seem a practical round to me.
Meanwhile, on an actual battlefield that does not include illiterate goat-herders with zero aviation assets....

Note how the Russians gave medical treatment to the wounded survivor, and then immediately used a “drag litter” to haul him away. My guess is that besides the ambush, their goal was to collect a prisoner for interrogation. Seems like it worked.
Another important lesson: day or night, if you are out patrolling, a drone might be above you watching your every move, until you are ambushed, rocketed, mortared, or shelled. Small tactical drones are a game changer.

P.S. SOCAM no doubt will have ammo made for the 5.5” barrel, but still either a slow round with little flash or a faster round with lots of flash and bang.

Purpose built for close quarters combat. Good article but I question where it says it can still penetrate heavy body armor. You lose a lot of muzzle velocity by the time you get down to a 5.5” barrel, between 50 and 100 ft/sec for each inch on a 5.56. Plus these would be subsonic rounds by design, so more like a heavy pistol round. But I don’t have the data on blackout to say for sure. Otherwise, cool gun porn.

The Snake Eater's dissatisfaction with the terminal performance of the 5.56 NATO from SBRs was specifically what drove them to create the 6.8 SPC. It makes sense they'd want nothing to do with a 9" 5.56.

OK, so 5.5/23.5 inches makes sense (at least for .300BLK subsonic), but six pounds? Maybe that includes the can/optics/sling/loaded mag - or perhaps SIG very helpfully included a survival kit in the pistol grip, with a 24 ounce lead fishing weight...
