I’m a little bit concerned about the evolution of this situation - but only a little.
Start with the proposition that, when they tell the truth, it’s by accident.
But consider - elimination of smallpox in 1978, and an end to smallpox vaccination after that, has created a big empty space in the human population with no orthopoxvirus to fill it.
Humans and orthopoxviruses (in the form of smallpox) have co-evolved and coexisted for thousands of years, maybe tens of thousands.
We have, for the first time since General Miles and the supposed smallpox blankets, a very large non-immune population AND high velocity and frequency intercontinental travel.
So, part - but only part - of the “gay disease” story is how many male sexual partners on how many different continents the gay men who contracted monkeypox at the sentinel event can have in a month.
There are, now, one-off cases appearing without a link to the gay male subculture. Smallpox in humans, and rinderpest in cattle, do not require physical contact to sustain epidemics once they get going.
So, with regard to CDC mask guidance - they are probably wanting to replay COVID’s greatest hits. But do not neglect the possibility that they know something we don’t.

Would you spend time in a room face to face and not touching an active monkeypox patient let’s say 5 minutes without any mask on them or you sitting across a desk or table? Simple question answer it yes or no.
Every person who treats a monkeypox patient is in full PPE and in a negative pressure room as a first choice. Monkeypox is a brother to smallpox closer than a cousin virus and smallpox was absolutely airborne over short distances as in under 15 feet. Unlike Covid that is aerosol AND airborne there is a important scientific difference. If you don’t know that difference study up on sciencedirect, EBSCO, or Google scholar.

Monkeypox is transmitted via close, personal contact. It is NOT an airborne/respiratory transmission.
So the "wear a mask to prevent monkeypox!" bullshit from the CDC is just that ... bullshit. It's about power and control.
There is a little kid in the UK with monkeypox in the ICU would you sit in their room with them no mask on either of you? There not a homo they are an innocent bystander. The point is would you trust your life to being sure that monkeypox is not “airborne” hint it absolutely is airborne it’s not aerosol their is a huge scientific and practical difference. There is zero possibility of me sitting in a room with that kid and not being in full tvek ppe and at least a P100 full face respiratory but then again I actually am a scientist who has done plume, aerosol and particulates studies at the micro and macro dispersal levels.

Sit across the table from a monkeypox patient for a 5 min conversion there buddy and enjoy your monkeypox. There is already documented cases of taxi drivers who never touched their passenger let alone humped them that got sick, same for nurses and also a ferry boat Captain who didn’t even come face to face with the person. I don’t see why people are so dense on this. Maybe it’s self soothing or some other mental breakdown. It’s not aerosolized like measles or covid that hangs for hours in the air and drifts for hundred of feet. It is absolutely airborne via droplets and respiratory products produced in speech or breathing for tens of feet and a few to tens of minutes depending on the stillness of the host atmosphere. Why anyone thinks it’s not when it’s been known since 1968 you can put two vectors a few feet apart and remove them 15 min later and it will have jumped vector to vector the NIH has the data and studies in 1968,1972,2013 and 2018 showing the same things. It’s a play on words for ignorant people to say it’s not airborne it is not aerosolized it can, will and does move via airborne droplets. Smallpox did, Ebola does too in certain stages ask the cute Asian nurse from Dallas how that works.
Why not restrict people with active cases of monkeypox from flying rather than forcing everyone to wear masks?

Monkeypox is not an airborne disease like Covid; it is transmitted via bodily fluids, same as Ebola.
It can spread via “large droplets” from prolonged face-to-face contact. So a mask would theoretically help protect you.

It can spread via surfaces. Monkeypox patient touches or scratches a lesion then touches something you touch afterward. Or a weeping lesion comes into contact with a surface you later touch. A teeny tiny break in your skin, or rub your eye, and there ya go. Ya got the pox.
