A Californian is going viral after sharing the biggest culture shocks she faced after moving to Iowa.
The clip comes courtesy of Katie Bishop (@katphishhbishh), a podcaster and CRNA student now living in Iowa. Her video, about the most surprising differences between her old state and new one, now has over 800,000 views.
It’s the latest entry in a long line of posts about culture shocks TikTokers have faced after moving.

Yeah, I’ve seen that guy. Married an American girl. One of the most shocking things he mentioned was that Brits don’t use top sheets in their beds.

Odds are the bozo that wrote the article thinks precisely that.

I don’t know. If you watch the video it seems like she was complaining about nice things, like shorter lines in the stores and friendlier people. My God what does this idiot want?

True story, was in Ireland staying at cousins and another set of cousins from the other side from Boston were visiting too. Told them I was from Omaha, Nebraska and they asked if my father was a farmer and when I told them no, they said he must work at Mutual of Omaha (which he did). I guess they thought Mutual sat in the middle of a corn field and the farmer’s farmed around it.

And everybody outside NYC hates NYC. From time to time, I go back and watch the movie "Fail Safe". I love happy endings!

Davenport, IA was the coldest Ive ever been in my life except for Lewistown, MT. One day in Davenport it was 22 below with a steady 40 mph wind. I thought I was going to die. It was so cold the little bit of snow on the ground was like talcum powder.
In Lewistown, Montana. I got in my rental car at 4am to drive to the airport in Billings, I turned the ignition key and heard the pistons struggling to become unstuck from the cylinder bores. I turned on the local news / weather station and the gal said with the windchill it was 70 below. There was a near white out blizzard condition and the only way I made Billings was to get right up on the bumper of a semi truck and, yeah, I rode his bumper for 3 and a half hours to Billings. That’s white knuckle driving. If I would have gotten a flat tire . . . Probably would have frozen to death

Lady, you moved to Iowa. It is called by Liberals Flyover Country but I’d rather be in a town in Iowa than in a city in California. And no, they do not have In N Out there. 🤓

I worked up in Canada for 4 years and when I came home I came through New York. The smiling people made me so happy, it was like being home in Arizona......except green.

Not to put Iowan’s down, I actually don’t know anybody but this is a good place to put this joke.
Years ago, I remember a stand up comic said Iowa stands for Idiots out walking around.
Make of that as you may.

Hah! That’s nothing. In 1969 I lived 150 miles north of Edmonton where for a period exceeding 60 days the HIGH never got above 40 below zero. The day I left Alberta to go to Regina the temp was 70 below (absolute no windchill)

I’ve found that most people believe that about New York State — that 100% of it is like New York City. It’s a huge, fairly rural state. And everybody outside NYC hates NYC. That has been my experience as well.
When you tell someone that you live more than 5 hours from NYC, their eyes get big, like they can’t imagine a state that big.

Sam Drucker's General Store... Seen in Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres and Petticoat Junction (loved the Hooterville Cannonball train.)
They couldn't reboot those shows... I wonder who was in the water tank with the girls 🤓

Well, I guess to many people Upstate New York IS another planet when compared to New York City. I lived about half my life in Central NY and that is very true.
The Finger Lakes area is rolling hills, dairy farms, apple orchards, and wine trails.
The Adirondacks is pristine rugged mountains. The PA border area, the Southern Tier, is mountainous and breathtaking. In WNY, there is the Alleghany Park and ski resorts. It is also beautiful with vineyards south of Buffalo.
Absent the government and the major cities, you’d be hard pressed to find a prettier state overall. Lots of variety in scenery and agricultrue.
