Spoke to a postmaster I am acquainted with...she told me one huge drain on USPS finances was the bloated pensions they are paying out. Supposedly, their newer hires don’t get that huge payout. We will see. If the USPS goes bankrupt.....bye bye pension?

USPS needs to hire more mail carriers. Some of my family members have been working for USPS for many years. They are being worked to death early morning to late night, seven days a week. They are exhausted. USPS isn’t hiring enough workers, and when they do hire, the new hires don’t want to stay because they don’t want to work 80 hours a week. If the new hires do stay, they don’t care as much as the older guys, so they take shortcuts to get the job done more quickly.

Well, they don’t deliver EVERYWHERE.

They won’t deliver to me or my neighbors. We have to get a Post Office Box in a town 15 miles away.

Not that I blame them for not wanting to deliver out here. A long way to go for maybe 15 people in a ten square mile area.

But I do believe in honesty in advertising.

It’s my favorite song by Johnny Cash. It’s like an ode to America.

Absolutely.
The USPS is an institution that has always “delivered “ for me also.👍

I think I’ve lost one package - and that was FedEx.

(UPS is usually excellent here.)

Maybe lost one USPS letter in my life; and one other came late looking like it had fallen in a mud puddle.

Trailer's for sale or rent
Rooms to let, 50 cents
No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarettes
Ah, but, two hours of pushin' broom
Buys an eight by twelve four-bit room
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road
Third boxcar, midnight train
Destination Bangor, Maine
Old, worn out suit and shoes
I don't pay no union dues
I smoke old stogies I have found
Short, but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the road

“I know a lot of people seem to have issues with the USPS, but my service has always been excellent.”

I’ve had Rural Post most of my life. Always with great service.
For over half my life the rural drivers carried stamps in their cars in case someone needed to mail something but didn’t have a stamp. Just put the correct change for the postage in the jar lid you kept in the mailbox and the carrier would slap the appropriate stamps on and everyone was happy.
I hear the Post Office frowns on that type of thing and has forbidden the drivers with even the most rural routes to carry stamps.

I now live in an apartment with many units.
Five days out of the week we get great service, it’s the one day out of six that she’s off is the one that suffers. Lousy.

The thing that makes me so mad about this is that it isn’t Johnny Cash’s song (It’s Hank Snow’s) Those of us who know the music had no idea johnny Cash had ever recorded this song until we heard the dumb commercial.

That happens here sometimes. Our usual lady is excellent, things not as perfect when she’s off.

(I think I remember my folks leaving change for postage in the mailbox :-)

It's a good commercial. We've all been discussing our views good and bad on the USPS for decades.

The song is brilliant and beyond classic.

You have some sort of problem with it? Your modus operandi seems to be posting something and then asking how everyone feels about it.

It's a good commercial. Your opinion.

We've all been discussing our views good and bad on the USPS for decades. All? I missed those discussions nonetheless, this is my view.

The song is brilliant and beyond classic. You have some sort of problem with it? I like the song very much. That was not the point. Spending tax money for useless information annoys me. That’s the point.

Your modus operandi seems to be posting something and then asking how everyone feels about it. Not true. Do you have information that supports this claim?

This is my first vanity post since I’ve been a member for over 13 years. Perhaps you’ve been around long enough to know this but nevertheless, thank you for your comments.

USPS is the most honest arm of govt. It’s revenue is through counter sales, and it’s required to fund pensions 15 years in advance.

Haven’t seen the commercial, but I’m inclined to go with JC’s POV.

But as implied earlier, Congress regularly rapes USPS.

Advertising can be a good investment, especially if a business has excess capacity, (available bandwidth, unrenting hotel rooms, trucks half empty, etc) so I won’t criticize the Post Office for advertising.

The Post Office has a congressionally mandated mission, unlike Fedex or UPS, so I won’t necessarily criticize them for inefficiency if that inefficiency is bake in.
