Cycling season is now in full swing. We’ve just seen the Giro d’Italia & the next major is the Tour de France in July.
As for this humble cyclist, I’m doing a full-century ride this weekend in Brevard, North Carolina - the “WNC Flyer”. Just about a mile of climbs overall, but they’re concentrated in 2 sections at about 40 miles, and then again at 90 miles. Supposed to be perfect mountain weather, with temps in the low 60’s at the start, and mid-70’s at the finish.
Ride on!
Any bike mechanics out there? My bike has an issue where at certain points going up and down the cassette I have to shift twice, and then shifting often shifts two cogs going to a higher gear which I then have to shift back one cog. I have had the local bike shop work on it but they decided it is an issue with the frame.
Well, this week on a ride I was using the smaller chainring and noticed the rear derailleur shifted perfectly. When I shifted back to the large chainring the problem returned.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this and can you tell me how to repair it?
Today is the day according to UPS that my new bike comes!!!

This deplorable family will be hitting Flatwoods Park if the weather cooperate. We might be getting a tropical storm tonight and tomorrow.
I haven’t ridden a bicycle in decades but my brother and I put many miles on our Columbia 26 inch one speeders we got for Christmas in 1962. Literally wore them out.
Anybody watch the Giro d’Italia? Great ending! Looking forward to Le Tour.
Yeah, I know they’re still all doped, but it’s still more entertaining than golf or NASCAR.
Today, 3 June, marks World Bicycle Day, which is a celebration of the humble bike. A simple, affordable, environmentally friendly and sustainable mode of transport that has been in use for over 200 years. The day brings together riders from all walks of life and cycling disciplines. The day also celebrates the tremendous health benefits for all age groups. Cycling supports healthier lifestyles, increased fitness, muscle strength, flexibility and reduced stress. With that in mind, it’s no surprise over 40% of Australians ride a bike every year! (Source: National Walking and Cycling Participation Survey 2021).
In September, Australia will be the focus of the cycling world. The 2022 UCI Road World Championships – one of the Triple Crown of Cycling events – is heading to Wollongong. This event is watched by over 300 million viewers worldwide.
It’s not a bicycle, but I bought a 3 wheel Schwinn one-speed with a basket now that the price came back down (and I could find one.) It’s fun for an oldster like me at 53 to take it from home to office to grocery store to plant nursery, etc. I live in a spot where they are relatively close together, and it’s flat-ish. It’s a little different from riding a bicycle—you have to steer the front wheel to turn instead of lean.
Now, I don’t want to be negative, but I want to implore people on bikes to obey stop signs, esp. if in a tourist area where drivers of cars are not paying attention. I almost hit a biker using the bike path where he had a stop sign because he failed to stop before crossing the street I was driving a car on. His coming from my left was obscured by a large business sign near the corner next to the bike path. He should have obeyed his stop sign!! If I had hit him, oh, boy we’d be off to the races. He’d be liable for his own injuries since he failed to obey the sign.
Oh, and please move over instead of riding 2-3 abreast on a rural road so that vehicles can pass instead of riding behind you. We live in a day and age of road rage, and it ticks people off when cyclists aren’t obeying the rules of the road. Protect yourselves.

First Look! Garmin Edge 1040 Solar | The End Of Dying Batteries?Last week I bought a GARMIN VIVOSMART 3 on sale from 80 euros down to 20 euros because the shop is going out of business.
But its an old fitness tracker as Garmin is now making the VIVOSMART 5, for 150 euros.

Started last night at Tempelhof Sportsfield (used to be the airport) with Compagnie Off a french performance group. They rolled out wheels with colored lights that looped around in the crowd. Then the Mother Wheel, which was already out on the grass, lit up. It raised a hundred feet into the air as the smaller wheels joined it. All that happened while club music was played on huge speakers. I didn't ride my bike there because my wife wanted to go - but she doesn't ride so we took the bus.
Today, after the classical music show, I rode through the Brandenburg Gate to the Victory Column, made a left and rode past the Mexican Embassy while heading home.
