one day at happy hour, I asked him if they wore helmets back in the day?
he said: “no, we just licked a piece of orange rind and slapped it on our head”
Been doing that my whole life. My mom taught me that. Bread, too.
The current political situation isn’t what caused me to start “prepping” and I’m not a hardcore prepper. We live close enough to Watt’s Bar Dam nuclear plant that I can see the condensation coming off of the cooling towers. The sirens start a mile from me. So...I keep a bugout bag ready for us and the pups. They have their own duffle with spare collars, leashes, and food. I keep their dry food in gallon freezer bags in the freezer to grab and go.
I started doing this after we were riding the horses in the mountains above the dam a few years ago. We were on a barely-there trail that only locals knew about and ran up on a camp full of middle eastern men camping where they could see the nuclear plant. They just stared at us and didn’t speak. We didn’t speak. We took a different trail back. That made me nervous so I made the bug out bags. We reported it but nothing was probably checked out.
wow
Aha, she got a grant.
Other shortages: This may have been mentioned before and I didn’t see it. On Thursday I took one of my parents to UAB for a post treatment scan. The lab was out of contrast dye. When we went afterward to the radiologist appt. we mentioned that and he said there was none in the U.S. Hoped to have some that situation resolved by July.
What kind of things do you vacuum seal and freeze? (BTW i am a vegetarian...). I only buy ingredients, no pre-made food.

Barrasso on Maria - “they say you should buy an electric CAR - I say you should buy an electric generator!”
This is true and something we take into consideration as electricity goes out here often in the winter (snow on trees, trees on powerlines). We have some backup generators and big batteries and whatnot, DH takes care of that. Couple solar panels.
Of all the Arms which have actually been involved in Human interaction over the last 100 years or so, if ever, excluding Military engagements, virtually none of the bearers of those arms are in the smallest way concerned about being disarmed by some act of law.
Hmm, freezing nuts. I have a pantry which is a very cold room and so far nuts keep a long long time there. Hadn’t thought of freezing them.
“the government wants us to stop breathing due to lack of oxygen.”

THERE YA GO!!
Having dinner with some libs tonight. I’m going to ask them to pay for my gas.
DH went to the local hardware store, part of ACE but the name of the store is True Value. Shelves had a lot of empy spaces, out of a lot of stuff, or one or two of things. Owner said that they used to get 90% of what they ordered, now they get 50%.
