A climber was killed and two others injured Sunday in a rock fall and avalanche in Rocky Mountain National Park, officials said.
A woman suffered minor injuries and a man who suffered more serious injuries was rescued by a Colorado National Guard helicopter using a hoist during a break in wintry weather, a park press release said.
Harsh conditions in the area complicated rescue efforts, CBS Denver reported. The park said rescue teams were "working in terrain above 11,500 feet" and were "experiencing winter like weather conditions," according to the station.

HUH? Winter like conditions? Would that be balmy breezes and mid 80’s? Glow bull climate changing warmness and all.
“HUH? Winter like conditions? Would that be balmy breezes and mid 80’s? Glow bull climate changing warmness and all.”
It’s snowing up there right now.
“Mountain climbers experience winter-like conditions”
Now that’s a slow news day.
Could have some snow in the Sierras above ~6500 ft. We’ll take it.
No Balmy breezes and Mid 80’s when you’re above 11,500’.
Glow bull climate warmness can do anything. 😂🙌
“Could have some snow in the Sierras above ~6500 ft. We’ll take it.”
It snowed here in Longmont last week and we’re just at 5000’.
Skied some of the tall Vail/Keystone/Breckenridge ones before back surgery, neck surgery, ........
You can be the best climber in the world, and an avalanche can still get you.
Yep. I climbed extensively in Rocky Mountain National Park. This time of year is the time of heavy and wet snow. It could have happened in so many places.
Snow showers predicted for my area @ 9500 feet on June 1st.
Well, 9500’ duh!
It's certainly possible. During basic at USAFA in the summer of '69 we got to spend some time in Rocky Mountain National Park. The group that went up the week before mine had to bail out early due to a freak snowstorm.
"Whoop - Sun just went down - close the windows and
start the woodstove..."
Last Monday, there was still feet of snow & ice above 9000ft. Even with it being in the 40s at 9500ft (where I was) and deep snow and ice. At 13000 in late May? Yeah, winter-like conditions in late spring.
It’s called the mountains, and not global warming.
Your ignorance and lack of research is showing.
Excuse me? Guess i forgot the sarc tag.
Yep I was in the French Alps and they have a gondola ride which takes you up to around 12,000 ft There is a complex up at the top there and just climbing some steps winded me.
