“In the original 1986 classic”
Classic? Really?
I guess I’m in the minority....I hated that movie.
Yep. I thought it was stupid. In real life Maverick would have served time for killing his wizzo by disobeying direct orders. Then after jail he would have had to pay for the Tomcat.
Yup. You're in the minority. You can now get your Biden dollars.
It was a chick flick as far as I’m concerned.
Seen both as of last night. Same Son (now a 747 pilot) with me; and we enjoyed them both. Finally meeting Penny Benjamin was worth the paltry $15.00!
For me, "Enjoy" fits between Classic and Hate.
Seeing the Taiwanese flag was an added benefit!

There were two very good moments in that movie. One was when Maverick is trying to impress the girl and other pilots with his mig story, he says “there I was…” Goose elbows him, interrupts him saying “We, Mav. There WE were.”
“Oh sorry Goose, there WE were…” Goose smiles.
The other is after the badly thought out tower fly-by, the both of them are outside the captain’s office sweating bullets, Goose says, “what’s the name of that trucking company? Truck driving might be a good career choice”
Cruise is good in both of those scenes. He’s straight man to Edwards’ comedy.
Cruise is good only as a team member btw.
But no it is not a great movie and not a classic.
“I guess I’m in the minority....I hated that movie.”
Just asking..why?
Agree. But I understand I was’t the target audience, even back then.
And it’s only gotten worse.
That makes at least two of us
I never saw it.
So if you’re in the minority...
Went for the full Top Gun: Maverick treatment tonight. Dinner at Applebee’s, and AMC full recliner leather seats.
The jet scenes, and there are many, are very intense. There are many heroic actions in this movie. There were emotional moments, and, many belly laughs as well. One scene in particular that was emotional, was the scene at a funeral, where a folded American flag, and a salute with rifles were presented.
The memorable music for me, was the Kenny Loggins song “Danger Zone,” David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” and The Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
“Don’t think ... Use The Force Pete!!”
