The Libertarian Party held its convention this weekend in Reno, Nevada. In a huge shift in leadership, the Mises Caucus swept the floor and took control of the Libertarian Party. The #RenoReset is complete.
For those unfamiliar with the Mises Caucus or Libertarian Party politics, they can be best described as Ron Paul Revolution 2.0, the people who supported Dr. Paul in his 2008 and 2012 Presidential campaigns. The LP became a landing zone for many of Ron Paul’s followers after the GOP went to great lengths to silence Dr. Paul during the campaign. However, many grew tired of LP drama and seemingly self defeating messaging and became apathetic, or anarchists. Meanwhile, the LP swung left and into a ditch.
This news is probably not shocking to anyone following the LP but casual voters may need to be caught up to speed. After decades of disappointing presidential campaigns and zero mainstream media coverage, the LP needed a new direction and the Ron Paul Revolution needed an infrastructure to become influential in the political discussion in 2022 and beyond.
This shift has brought back the interest of many libertarian influencers to becoming active in the party
What does this change in the guard mean?
1- It means the Libertarian Party just got a lot less woke. As seen in the Tweet above, the new management got its momentum in response to how poorly the National Libertarian Party handled the messaging in the events of 2020. (Race riots, covid response)
Going forward the LP messaging should be much more relevant and noticeable to people on social media. Posts with only the party platform or pictures of random people with a membership card isn’t exactly a winning strategy.

Choosing leadership in smokey back rooms... ‘No Mabel, that’s not cigar smoke.”
Every Libertarian I know is an open borders idiot.
>> Every Libertarian I know is an open borders idiot.
+1
That’s one of the biggest reasons why I can’t support them.
“So,they gonna kick out the con men and grifters that have been running the party lately?”
Kind of like the Republicans huh?
I’ve never supported them. I was a Nationalist back before Trump before it was more popular, from the Buchanan days.
Despite popular believe, they have always been divided 50-50 on the open borders issue. In no way were they “all in” for it. This was something the Republicans falsely accused and stereotyped them of as a whole. Just never was true, even now they still battle over that issue with a passion among themselves within their own party.
Not true...
“Kind of like the Republicans huh?”
I am sick of the hypocrisy, self righteousness, and lack of self accountability...
This is a rerun of the Tea Party here... This is a good thing. You folks may kick the LP but when Trump was running over half the LP backed and voted for Trump to helped get him elected.
I would gladly take Ron Paul over the crowd that has run the LP.
I told them in 2016 that Johnson-Weld was about the least liberatarian ticket that the LP could vhe come up with. They’re both quasi-Big Government Republicans. I’d prefer the Paulies to people like that. Any day.
I think these are about the most responsible, reasonable people in the LP crowd. I’m at least able to listen and discuss things with them.
” In no way were they “all in” for it”
really? their platform still states:
“Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders.”
The libertarians and the pubs must have went into a deep sleep during the great reset?
Yup.
“really? their platform still states:”
You really cannot go by that, seriously. Those who are
Paultards like myself, which are a majority, stand by Ron Paul’s statement and stance that we “should bring the troops home and use them to guard our own borders”.
The Tea Party stance, which Ron Paul started. It really is a perpetual internal conflict so it cannot be stereotyped. The open borders stance is with a minority of true Libertarians, but there are now many leftist anarchist moles who also push it.
These leftists do not represent true Libertarians. And this is what the MC take over is going to try and fix. We have to remember that over half the LP voted for Trump the first time around. Can’t be picky and kick a gift horse in the mouth. We need all the help we can get, it is not a time for ignorant self defeating purism.
“You really cannot go by that”
so, then we must accept that the libertarian party platform is simply a bunch of lies, and therefore are a bunch of completely worthless statements regarding what the libertarian party stands for? that would therefore mean that there’s no way to divine WHAT the libertarian party stands for, which by the way is what most people pretty much suspect anyway ... according to you, they are correct in that assessment ... that’s good to know for a fact ...
They are not liars, they are scatter brained with their principles, but not on purpose, it is a residual.
Here is the problem. Just like the Republicans, Libertarians elect party officers who make statements opposite of what the majority wants once they are in power. This includes party officers who make statements like the open border statement on their website. That statement does not at all represent the whole, it is a statement from the representatives that many do not agree with.
What you accuse of would be would be like saying Mitt Romney speaks for all Republicans.
The major flaw with Libertarians is the deep set individualism and extreme effort to never be a part of a collective. It is like herding cats, they can never and will never agree on one combined goal as a concerted effort. Their strict individualism prevents this. Hence why they are are a failed party and fail to grow. Most are all about the individual Me, My, Mine in the now.
But they are not the only ones, I see this same in the Republican party too. No one gives a damn about the future of their Grandchildren, only their own selfishness and personal comfort in the now.
The Ron Paul Revolution and the Tea Party were the only times the Libertarians came together in a concerted effort and it was extremely effective.
