The Cessna 172

Top speed: 188 mph

I'm just going off what multiple sites say.

How fast does the Cessna fly?

The cruising speed of a Cessna 172 Skyhawk is 122 knots with a maximum speed of 163 knots. This equates to a 226 km/h cruising ground speed with a maximum of 302km/h.

That equates to 187.577 MPH

“Not very fast considering a simple bare bones Cessna 172 does about 190mph. I figured they’d be doing about 300mph by now.”

Please do some homework before posting on the subjects of flying and car racing.

“No, I was simply referring to the speed,”

The only way a 172 will do 195 mph is in a steep dive no responsible pilot would dare to do!

“Missed it by by about 12 mph!”

WRONG! You said “bare-bones”.

Your link is a speed record set by a specially prepared 172.

You posting multiple times on this is weird!

“The horses in the Kentucky Derby were running over 39 MPH.”

Foiling sailboats are running 60 mph in races.

I remember one year someone drank orange juice because he had a contract with the FL orange growers, and folks were not amused.

I know champagne was always out of the question -- a don't drink and drive message I've been told.
