The crash happened at approximately 10:30 a.m. just north of Thunderbolt Marina.
The Coast Guard reports that two boats were involved. One boat had three people aboard, the second had six people aboard.
According to the Coast Guard, the missing boaters are a 37-year-old white male and two early 20-year-old white males who were last seen wearing board shorts and no shirts.
Chatham Fire, Chatham EMS, Coast Guard, and Marine Patrol are on scene.

Drinking and boating;
Used to do it all the time.
But I had a 45 foot sailboat.

Been on that stretch during an intercoastal run. I thot thunderbolt was a cool name for a town on a river.
Democrats say it was a black assault style boat with multiple passenger capacity. They immediately demanded new laws for boat controls including red flag laws, age restrictions and extensive background checks for boat operators.

My ex-Navy father also made us wear life vests and he wore one too. People made fun of us at the dock, but we didn't drown.

I am from Savannah and have friends in the responder community. Not a lot of news is getting out.
Been through that section in the boat a few times. It’s narrow and lots of current. Only takes a second to lose track of what’s happening.
You have to be on point all the time in the ICW.

We are on a 36ft Tashiba, but, we are Velcro-ed into Vero Beach right now.

STill no official announcement pending notification of the families. It has been released that two of the dead were teachers at a local school.
What I think may have happened was one boat was going up the river and the other came out of the nearby creek and cut in front of the other.
It happens a lot.
About a year and a half ago, we were cruising the ICW near Sebastian Fl. and came across 20+ boats Shrimping in the middle of the channel. Had we not blown our airhorn, several of the boats would have been roughly pushed out of the way by our rather slow moving sailboat, but, some of the folks traveling the ICW do go VERY fast, and, use autopilot. They don’t care what is in their way.
Saw a guy today here in Vero going through a bridge flat out. It’s all no-wake, but, this guy didn’t seem to care.
Outlaw boats.
