I’m reading this usage is more prevalent in Euro trucking?
Used here in the US. The truck I’m driving has a 10gallon tank of it.
DEF fluid? Is that like VIN number and ATM machine?
Not true. Truck ECM's can be programmed to run without it. It just isn't legal to do so.
If there really is a shortage, Russia/Putin gets all the blame. BlackRock, Union Pacific and any domestic firm aiding the shortages will get a pass.
Interesting. I wonder how many trucking firms & drivers would run the risk. Illegal and would no doubt void warranties & insurance, etc.

I’ll be interested to read additional comments and info, as this is this is the first I’ve heard of this aspect of diesel trucking.
FYI ping.
Most farmers with a diesel pick up. Popular in farm country, where the cultivating equipment runs on diesel, too.
The engine computer programming allows only 5mph, if there is no DEF in the tank, but it CAN be diddled with.
Biden's people are REALLY itching to start a revolution. No food will do it.
Egads! Farming equipment, too. Yep, the globalists really do want to starve us all.
Buy Tesla stock?
Tesla is supposed to be releasing their semi in 2023.
It will be tens of thousands of dollars more than other semis, but the fuel savings alone should pay for the difference in a very short time.
I don’t see a limit imposed by Home Depot. I just put 10 in my cart and it was allowed.
They would just need to change the regulation. They actually did that temporarily last year when replacements for failing NOX sensors were impossible to get. The SCR system on diesel trucks just squirts DEF into the exhaust as it goes up the stack. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the engine performs. The EPA mandates that trucks derate when the SCR system isn’t functioning correctly because they are assuming that no one would bother to fix it otherwise.
those trucks will not replace long haul trucks.
and second thing is how much will those batteries weigh?
100 gallons of diesel will move a rig 600-800 miles roughly, and doesn’t weigh that much compared to the batteries needed for the same range. not to mention the space needed.
Well, maybe they’ll do what they gotta do. Either that or lots of people starve.
The total solids in urine are on average 59 g per person [per day]. Urea is the largest constituent of the solids, constituting more than 50% of the total.

Regards,
So if all new trucks since 2010 are required to use the DEF, how many older trucks can be pressed back into service to take up the slack?
It’s time to go to the nearest collection center and pee for the good of all.
And yes, that could be coming, apparently, if we wish to avoid the DEF shortage.
