Yes drummer Alan White has died, aged 72, his wife Gigi has confirmed.

In a statement on White's Facebook page, Gigi said: "Alan White, our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away at the age of 72 at his Seattle-area home on May 26, 2022, after a brief illness.

"Throughout his life and six-decade career, Alan was many things to many people: a certified rock star to fans around the world; band mate to a select few, and gentleman and friend to all who met him.

"Alan was born in Pelton, County Durham, England on June 14, 1949. He began piano lessons at the age of six, began playing the drums at age twelve, and has been performing publicly since the age of thirteen.

Jeez- I saw Yes in concert consistently in all their forms from 1978 till about 1986. Recently saw Alan play with a reformed Yes during the summer of 2019 during the Royal Concert Tour with Asia and John Lodge

Also was the drummer on “Instant Karma”, which ironically Yes referenced in “I’ve Seen All Good People”, even before White replaced Bill Bruford.

Ray Liotta, Alan White...this is really turning into a lousy day for me.

Never saw Yes in concert, but there are a number of songs I listen to today. The live versions of Siberian Khatru and Roundabout are staples of my playlists when I go for my walks.

Attended Topographic Oceans, Relayer and Union all top concerts.

Yes has had a lot of musicians performing under its band name over the years so far just Chris and Alan are gone I think but Anderson, Wakeman, Howe, Banks, Bruford are getting up there too

IIRC, it wasn't long ago that Bill Bruford announced his retirement on his website, due to physical ailments.

A collaborator of his, Rick Keller, has worked with him and a variety of other musicians.

I met Rick in the bar at Winstar after a Frankie Valli concert on NY Eve close to 10 years ago. I recognized several of the musicians from the concert, so I raised my glass to them, and said "Prosit Neu Jahr". Next thing I know, Rick starts rapping at me in German, kicking off a 90 minute gab fest. We still correspond infrequently on Linked In.

He lived in Germany for about 20 years, told me several great stories about performing in East Germany. I told a couple of stories about my 4 years in Germany with the Army.

He introduced me to his bandmates, and I mentioned that my son was a trumpet player in his middle school band. When I mentioned the school (Coppell), one of the vocalists said, "I know that program, it's one of the best in the nation!"

Rick's produced several albums, at least one which had Bill on drums.

Saw them at a concert with the Edgar Winter Group. The show was opened by a little band that was just starting to make it big: The Eagles.

Although they are both fantastic drummers between White and Bruford I have always favored Bruford especially his work with Crimson over many years so I didn’t know he retired but wishing him a long enjoyable one he earned it!

Rick or Steve being the oldest looking ones of bunch will probably live the longest!
