If the Left wants to go the “philosophy route” and say this is all about being “a person” and maybe you are not “a person” until you breathe air on your own, or something like that, then I think they could at least attempt an argument. I would not agree with their argument, but I think it could be attempted.
But “alive”? The baby kicks. The baby sucks its thumb. In 7th grade biology class I looked through a microscope and saw single-celled animals moving around. I knew they were alive. There is no question that the sperm and the egg are alive (but only have half the chromosomes that a human being has), and when they form a zygote, you have a genetically unique human, with the right number of chromosomes, and it’s alive.
If they go the “biological route” they lose instantly. How can they not see that?
