Breastfeeding duration is associated with improved cognitive scores at ages 5 through 14, even after controlling for socioeconomic position and maternal cognitive ability, according to a new study.
Previous studies have found an association between breastfeeding and standardized intelligence test scores; however, a causal relationship is still debated. Improved cognitive outcomes could potentially be explained by other characteristics—such as socioeconomics and maternal intelligence—of the women who breastfeed their babies.
The unadjusted associations found that longer breastfeeding durations were associated with higher verbal and spatial cognitive scores at all ages up to ages 14 and 11, respectively. After taking the differences in socioeconomic position and maternal cognitive ability into account, children breastfed for longer scored higher in cognitive measures up to age 14, in comparison to children who were not breastfed. Longer breastfeeding durations were associated with mean cognitive scores 0.08 to 0.26 standard deviations higher than the mean cognitive score of those who never breastfed. This difference may seem small for an individual child but could be important at the population level.
The authors conclude that a modest association between breastfeeding duration and cognitive scores persists after adjusting for socioeconomics and maternal intelligence.

See? Brandon just wants your kids to be smarter. That’s why there’s a formula shortage.
“Hard to breastfeed and be in the workforce. Not sure how practical this is.“
Hmm. Gods way of saying marry a proveder and be with the little kids at home?
So far so good!
But he thinks he’s going to change the world. He’s double major International Relations and Finance. And he’s doing a Fellowship program in Washington DC as we speak.
It’s an interesting program with only seven “Fellows”, but their first three guest speakers are Robert Gates, James Comey, and Jen Psaki, who all are involved with his college.
Most colleges lean left anyway, but he’s doing good things like being a member of The Federalist Society, etc.
The plan to deliver everything the government decides your baby needs.
Its as practical as you make it. Feeding your children is an important priority.
the most startling revelation that I had recently came from a book called, I think, The Good Gut.
A huge percentage of a woman’s breast milk does not actually feed the baby. It feeds the gut microbes in the baby’s gut.
These microbes produce a whole pharmacy of chemicals that facilitate the baby health and growth.
Skin to skin contact along with cuddling and playing with the baby is very important.
It’s good to pump as that lets you build up a stash in the freezer for when you can’t be with your baby or for when you are ill and might pass a flu virus or whatnot to them... also you might require a medication that would make it unwise to breastfeed and the frozen packets could carry you through such a time.
Also, just look at the bad spot many Moms are in with the formula shortage...
Recently a company sent me a few of their compact, rechargeable pumps. They are very powerful (perhaps too much so) they had a few bugs in the firmware that needed fixing. For one thing pressing a button on the device to change the suction level had no way to step down, only up... big mistake. You had to move from level 1 through 5 to get back to level one... no way to step backwards so you had to either endure the powerful levels to get back to a low level or disconnect the tubing, change the level and then re-connect to the pump... what a goofy setup! I wrote some code that changed it to a short press to go up a level and a long press to go down a level. I also added a cheap ESP32 board to enable controlling pump functions from a smartphone... this added a customizable let-down mode which is very handy.
The system does have a nice set of flanges that are flanges with a 5oz container integrated.. you can slip them into your bra and pump while doing other things, you don’t have to just sit there for 20 minutes of boring pumping while holding flanges...
I work with medical devices, some simple and some complicated, breast pumps are pretty simple devices.
Did you keep going to age 14?
I was born in the Better living through Chemistry era.
The doctor asked my mom”You’re not going to breastfeed are you?”
She told me she wanted to but caved. So they put me on formula because they said I was allergic to milk, right from the hospital.
I have extensive food sensitivities and am on a severely restricted diet. I can’t help but wonder if it would be this bad if she had breastfed me.
Also, in those days, they gave the moms pills to allegedly dry them up, which she said didn’t work. They did that for each of the five of us. She died from aggressive breast cancer which metastasized, at 67.
Knowing that I had allergies, I knew that breastfeeding would help my kids so that’s why I chose to do it and boy, am I glad I did. FWIW, I did not have the food sensitivities as bad when I was younger as I do now. I just knew it would help overall.
imho our bodies are not designed to live in low light and low dirt conditions.
could be worse. Your mom could have had a c section. same book called “The Good Gut” points to c sections as a major cause of problems for people later on. why? well apparently the baby gets a good dose of the moms healthy bacteria when the baby comes through vaginal tract. this bacteria winds up in the baby’s gut. c sections circumvent that exit.
could be sometime doctor’s will find that reseeding the gut with healthy bacteria will cure a number of ailments.
I played several different types of music for my children in the womb: classical, lyrical, liturgical, and some heavy metal thrown in.
Music definitely stimulates brain development.
btw your allergies might go away if you took to regularly drinking unpasteurized cows milk
Once in a great while find unpasteurized sheep and goats milk.
I was shocked to see a story 10 years ago about a group of women who got arrested. They were picketing congress to change the laws concerning pasteurization.
I did some reading up on the subject.
I don’t have allergies but from time to time, I’ll buy some unpasteurized milk—because it improves my gut biome.
You can find it by googling unpasteured milk near me. or googling unpasteurized milk. —and then give the name of your town/suburb/county/city
I have tried raw cow and goat milk.
It didn’t help.
once or twice probably won’t do it. but I take your word. anyhow unpasteurized milk my best thought on the subject
I realize that only once or twice would not be enough, but when someone reacts to something every time they eat it, how do they get enough in them to have an effect?
I’m writing an ebook on long covid. one of the things that I recommend is to immediately stop eating all histamine foods. it has something to do with mast cell activation. something about histamine foods that set off mast cells in the body to cause all kinds of unpleasant reactions which are characteristic of long covid.
Probably doesn’t have anything to do with your issues. but google alergies and mast cell activation and histamines and see what comes up.
I am, unfortunately, more than aware of mast cell activation syndrome.
So far Luteolin is the single best supplement that I have found for controlling my symptoms to any reasonable degree, although all it really does is cause the reactions to not be as strong nor last as long.
There is NOTHING that I have found, tried, or am on that has given me my ability to eat back yet.
