In "Bowling for Columbine," Michael Moore puzzles over why there are so many more shootings in the US vs. Canada, which have comparable rates of gun ownership. He concludes the issue isn't guns per se, but unique American cultural pathologies. Is this still an allowable theory?
Moore points out that the day of the Columbine shooting, 4/20/99, also happens to be the day Bill Clinton dropped the most bombs on Yugoslavia during that war. With the suggestion being that Americans have been conditioned to embrace mass violence. Still an allowable observation?
Because I have a feeling that if you even *thought* about positing a connection between current US foreign policy and these mass shootings, you'd be furiously denounced. Seems like the only thing you're allowed to call for is Mike Bloomberg's latest 10-point plan for gun control

Canada has a lot of mass shootings. About as many as U.S. Per capita.
U.S. Is not at the top of per capita murders.
Interesting I’m not familiar with the numbers...
Shooters get way too much media attention that encourages more of the same.
Everything fata** Michael Moore says is a lie. Much like Joe Biden.
It’s simple math. U.S. has such a large population.
This guy has made so many clever tweets against his fellow leftists, he is known as a leftist heretic in the mold of a Glen Greenwald or Matt Taibbi. He’s always calling the left out on their many and various hypocrisies. He and others like him are some of the few leftists I have any respect for despite our political differences on some issues, as they are the only ones on the left still grounded in reality.
I wonder how the USA compares to the rest of the world in these areas.
I find him interesting I never considered the foreign policy theory before though maybe tenuous.
In another tweet he says this:
@mtracey
Have you noticed the same people passionately demanding gun control are also passionately demanding that giant amounts of uncontrollable, untraceable guns be indiscriminately dumped into Eastern Europe
Yes indeed

This kid was a daycare child.
Almost all the shootings by young people are done by warehoused children.
Let's be clear about this. The problem is African-American popular culture. "Urban culture." You're not really a "man" unless you join a gang. And you are expected to be a "man" when you're 13 years old. Before you know it, you're expected to carry a loaded gun. And then you're expected to use it.
Here are a few statistics.
There are roughly 2700 gang-related homicides every year. This number goes up in direct proportion to USA population. The overall violent crime rate and the overall murder rate may go up or down as much as 40-50%, but this number stays pretty much the same.
(Disclaimer: I haven't checked the numbers from 2020 and 2021 yet for gang-related homicides. Quite possibly, gang-related homicides went up sharply. But I doubt very, VERY much that they went down.)
Here's another disturbing statistic: according to Biden's Department of Justice (Bureau of Justice Statistics), black men are 5.25 times more likely than white men to commit an interracial crime of violence. They don't come right out and say it. You have to compare the number of interracial crimes (according to the DOJ) to numbers of white men and black men (according to the US Census Bureau), then do a little fifth grade math.
So ... like I said, black men are 5.25 times more likely than white men to commit an interracial crime of violence. But we're the ones who are racists?
Not even close.

Canada demographics (From Wikipedia):
According to the 2016 Canadian Census, the country’s largest self-reported ethnic origin is Canadian (accounting for 32 percent of the population), followed by
English (18.3 percent)
Scottish (13.9 percent)
French (13.6 percent)
Irish (13.4 percent)
German (9.6 percent)
Chinese (5.1 percent)
Italian (4.6 percent)
First Nations (4.4 percent)
Indian (4.0 percent) and
Ukrainian (3.9 percent)
Does this answer Michael Moore’s question?
We’re 76th.

Oh, the war in Ukraine? But not sub-Saharan Africa, where at any given moment, there are two, three, or even four wars simultaneously going on? What does that tell you?
It tells you that even the most gonzo anti-gun fanatics on the lunatic left-wing fringe have wrapped their brains around this fact: if your heritage is European, you are substantially less likely to use a gun in a violent crime than if your heritage is sub-Saharan African.
They may not say it out loud, but this is what they're admitting with their actions. Actions speak a thousand times louder than words.
They never try to say that white people are more likely to commit a crime with a gun. They know it's a lie. The reverse is true. What they're trying to do, here in America, is to ensure there are fewer guns in circulation -- because if white people have more guns, eventually impoverished urban black youth will get their hands on more guns, one way or the other (burglaries, used gun deals, the black market, whatever).
John Lott is a solid authority. Thanks for the reference.
