Death toll in Texas elementary school shooting rises to NINETEEN students and two teachers: CBP agent rushed into building with tactical team and shot barricaded gunman, 18, dead

The death toll from Tuesday's shooting at a Texas elementary school has risen to 19 students and two teachers - all murdered by an 18-year-old gunman.

The gunman was shot dead by a heroic Border Patrol agent who ran into the school with a tactical support team and killed him while he was barricaded inside, and exchanging gunfire with other Texas law enforcement officers.

The gunman, Salvador Ramos - wearing body armor, equipped with a handgun and possibly a rifle - shot his grandmother before entering the school and opening fire, said Governor Greg Abbott.

The grandmother was airlifted to hospital and her condition was unknown.

One of the teachers was named by her family as Eva Mireles, 44. The second has not been named.

Ramos, who was born in North Dakota but lived in Uvalde, was a student at Uvalde High School, Abbott said.

Ramos's young victims were aged between seven and 11, CNN's Ed Lavandera reported.

On Tuesday night the father of 10-year-old Annabelle Guadalupe Rodriguez said that she was still missing.

'He shot and killed - horrifically and incomprehensibly - 14 students and killed a teacher,' Abbott said at a press briefing. The death toll was later revised to 18 children.

'There are families that are in mourning right now. And the state of Texas is in mourning with them.'

It was the deadliest such incident since 14 high school students and three adult staff were killed in Parkland, Florida in 2018 - and the worst at an elementary school since the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut, in which 20 children and six staff were killed.

I was driving earlier tonight and listening to the local classic rock station. They started playing Aerosmith's "Janey's Got a Gun".

I thought that was poor taste and changed the station.

We went to Dan’s bake Sale in Ft. Collins, Colo. in 1992. A huge caravan of cars went up I-25. It was a fun day.

Love it. Wow. That was way before I started listening to him.

My folks adored him. His father did some law work for my stepfather years ago.

As I’ve said on here several times.....I moved to the UK as a liberal...and came back a conservative. 😁

The thread saying the shooter was transgender was pulled.

Some of the original stories I saw on this implied that the shooting might have been a revenge act for students having been disciplined in some way for not using the right pronoun.

Not seeing any of that now.

Strange.

Most excellent. More people like you are necessary. Is there a book about it? A manual? Why not write one? Short. but detailed.

Thank You Sir.
I was hoping someone had this image handy.
I remember following Palestine attacks on children and hijackings.
This IS the answer.

Pretty tough agent. While barricaded inside he not only kills the bad guy but did so while exchanging fire with Texas law enforcement officers!

The targeted school was a GFZ, as expected. Zero provision for teachers or staff to carry.

Insanity. But in spite of that idiocy why was there no armed security in the school? Security personnel and law enforcement are exempt from gone-free-zones. Are they not?

“GUNMAN”….

Have you seen this kid’s pictures wearing DRESSES??

It’s a mental problem and it’s being shoved down our throats by our government.

“I am relieved to read of the actions of the CBP agent and tactical team in the deadly intervention that stopped the shooter.”

Do you think teachers (some anyway) should have a weapon in the classroom?

19 dead? Well, I’m STILL not giving up ONE SINGLE GUN. In fact, I’m probably buying another AR-15 because it will be worth so much more when a) Demonrat zombies attack, or b) Demonrat Zombies in Congress prevent them from being sold on the open market.

How did the perp, who had apparently been identified with mental issues, gain entry into the secure school?

Absolutely...no doubt. There are some TX districts that have done this and some in OK (where I live) have also done the same. Both are in accordance with the authorizing state law. Unfortunately, most of these are in very rural settings and a prime impetus for the school board to do this was the amount of time required for a police response to their location. It seems a much taller hill to climb to get this in effect in less-than-rural settings, IMO.

Absolutely teachers should be allowed to have weapons in the classroom, provided they are well-trained on the weapons. Perhaps we can have a firearms certification program for teachers to encourage them, maybe give them a little extra in their pay to incentivize them to go through the training program.

Think about it, the cops brought weapons to the scene to take the shooter out but it was too late. Mass casualties by the time they got there.

It was too late.

That's one of the biggest problems with "gun control". It disarms the innocent and makes them into sitting ducks. The police are never going to arrive in time to save them.

Criminals and mentally ill people? They don't care about any stinking gun control laws. Look at Chicago for example - dozens gunned down every weekend. Due to the strict gun control laws in place, the criminals are confident that nobody law-abiding is going to get in their way.

This school shooting is rather unusual.

The gunman barricaded himself inside and shot it out. The usual when armed people show up is for the gunman to either curl up in a ball, kill themselves, or to do a suicide-by-cop.

Reporting I heard said that there were 4 SROs for the district, but none of them were at that particular school at the time.
