That’s the plain history of open primaries — started in the South in the late 19th/ early 20th century to ensure Democratic rule.
Just like in my county in Arlington, VA — we have “at large” representation, which was adopted in the 1920s in order to isolate black voters. Today they leftists who claim it’s a public good ignore both its racist historical basis and its insidious effects in denying direct representation.

In TN primaries we are asked as we go in Which party we want to vote for D or R so we get all that party’s ballots ...

There are a lot of Hollywood productions in GAmow and I suspect, along with money to fund Democrats, that some live there part-time and now vote there (and whenever else they are really from).
