(Reuters) - Russian lawmakers on Tuesday gave the first stamp of approval to a bill that would allow Russian entities to take over foreign companies that have left the market in opposition to Moscow's actions in Ukraine, the government's online portal showed.
Scores of foreign companies have announced temporary shutdowns of stores and factories in Russia or said they were leaving for good since Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb. 24.
The bill, passed in the first reading by the lower house of parliament, or Duma, would allow the state development bank VEB or other entities approved by a commission to act as external administration at companies where foreign ownership, specifically from countries that Moscow deems "unfriendly", exceeds 25%.
While the first reading approves the merits of the proposed law, the bill needs to undergo a second reading dedicated to a detailed discussion and fine tuning, before a third, usually formal reading. It then must be reviewed by the upper house, and signed by President Vladimir Putin to become law.

It looks more like “for good” as opposed to “temporary”.
So when do we start seizing Chinese assets?
Right after they attack Taiwan.
helluva lot cleaner than China just taking them, and all the Patents they can swipe as well.
Your country is against us? well then stay in your country from now on... Who actually thought they could coast along and not lose anything??
that’s called ‘nationalizng’ over here, and is not ‘free enterprise’ by any means.
Recent news reports have indicated that China is “preparing” for a conflict with us over Taiwan and has arranged all financial affairs so that we can’t do to them what we did to Russia.
They can’t do that, it’s illegal!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Reciprocal sanctions. They had already said they were coming.
Basically turning them into another Venezuela or Cuba whereby no intelligent investor will ever return.
I believe Germany seized Russian assets.
“The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned and blocked vessels and aircraft worth over $1 billion, as well as frozen hundreds of millions of dollars of assets belonging to Russian elites in U.S. bank accounts.”
And, “Biden Administration Releases Plan to Seize Russian Assets”
On April 28, the Biden administration released a comprehensive proposal for a legislative package to hold the Russian government and Russian oligarchs accountable for the war against Ukraine. The package outlines new authorities granted to the U.S. government to assist with the seizure of Russian assets and enable the proceeds to go to Ukraine to assist in their fight against Russia.
Yup. Russia has every right in the world to set their domestic policy and seize assets that have been abandoned by foreign investors.
Now don’t expect the foreign investors to return. It’ll be forty to sixty years before insurance companies will be willing to issue policies and guarantees on those investments in Russia.
News flash....
Analysts have described the relationship between Russia and the West as a “permanent divorce; all that’s left is negotiating about the children”...:-)
Russia has made it clear they intend to redirect their focus to the East where they have good relationships and promising opportunities.
We’ll see how it all works out.
So they’ll be the proud owners of a bunch of BMW dealerships that have a BMW sign on the building but no BMW’s for sale. Repeat times 1000 other foreign companies. What a plan.
They will be China’s prison playmate. China will dictate how high to jump and Russia will have to jump.

They’ll put ‘BWM’ badges on the 2023 Lada and tell their customers it’s the same thing as a BMW 850.

As Russia bleeds itself dry militarily and economically the odds of the Chinese relieving Russia of Siberia increase exponentially. Don’t be too surprised if China destroys the Trans-Siberian Railroad in a few key spots like large bridges and then takes the region.
Unlike Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a Chinese invasion of Siberia is tons easier to carry out because the Russian Eastern Military District is so dependent on the railroad. Take out the railroad and Siberia becomes a Chinese province.

How will they survive without US? :-)
How will I survive without genuine Abibas track pants? (-:
