Bentley's first EV is terrifyingly fast — 0 to 60 in 1.5 seconds
We're not even sure we believe the claims
We already knew that Bentley is entering the electric car business, promising that an all-electric SUV would launch sometime in 2025. Now the company has revealed some of the first details about the car, and it sounds absolutely terrifying — but in a good way.
During an interview with Automotive News Europe, Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark confirmed just how powerful the automaker's first EV will be. We’re looking at 1,400 horsepower (1,044 kW) with a 0-60 time of just 1.5 seconds.
To put that into perspective, the Tesla Model S Plaid has a 0-60 time of 1.99 seconds — and Tesla claimed it was the fastest accelerating car in production when it was announced. Meanwhile, the Rimac Nevera, an electric hypercar with 1,914 horsepower, 258 mph top speed and a $2.44 million price tag, goes from 0-60 in 1.85 seconds.
(excerpt) "Most people enjoy the 30-70 mph acceleration, or in Germany the 30-150 mph acceleration," the CEO said. He believes that the high 0-60 speeds make the driver uncomfortable and nauseous, and for this reason the Bentley will offer a slower acceleration setting, which will increase the 0-60 time to around 2.7 seconds.

Hallmark confirmed that at least one version of the car will cost more than €250,000 — or $262,447. Not even the upcoming Tesla Roadster is set to cost quite that much.
How many Gs does one of those things pull? Too many Gs, if I remember correctly, and one blacks-out.
Looks like fun to clean the bugs off the front of.
What kind of tires do these things have? I remember muscle cars with just hundreds of hp and 0-60 in the 6 second range smoking them up.
Your ability to rapidly lose control also just accelerated.

Those DC motors have, like all DC motors, maximum torque when stalled.
I’m not impressed by 0-60 performance from an EV.
Traction is a real problem for cars attempting these fast 0-60 times. Requires perfect pavement, perfect temperatures, perfect tires. On regular streets with Michelin Super Sports my Corvette struggles for traction at times and that is with 460 hp. The Z06 with 650 hp is much harder to get grip with tires slipping even with traction control on.
But from the front it's pretty butt-ugly, IMHO.
Yes. And? It is the inherent characteristic of an electric motor to get 100% of it’s torque at zero rpm. A gas engine has to rev. None of this is unexpected for anyone with a smidgen of knowledge about electric motors.
The EV problems remain the same. Short range and long charging times. Bentley has done nothing to ease those problems.
I don’t think one should have his teenager put it in the garage.
If true, it looks like the 2,200-hp Deus Vayanne’s reign was short lived.
At least both can still fry eggs on the motor after a few seconds of acceleration.
Wow! I remember an old film of a guy strapped inside a rocket sled, whose face looked like that, under unbelievable acceleration. No thanks!
Thanks; bookmarking that one.
How many times do you get to put the spurs to such a car when you are following a rusty, smoking pickup, with a trailer hauling 6 weed whackers, 4 leaf blowers and two lawn mowers??
