A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR 'Uhlenhaut Coupé', always in possession of the auto maker, sold for $143 million at RM Sotheby's!
The auction house's description with many photos - 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR
An unbelievable amount of dosh, it puts it in the top 10 of any item sold at auction.
O Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz.

Hope Ferris and Cameron stay away from it, lol.

I would have bought it, but State Farm’s quote for collision, even with $1000 deductible, was too much.

I was going to go cheap and buy this 1967 GT 500 -
for a mere $1 million - a tiny 143rd of the price
of that Mercedes - until I decided to pay the rent instead.
Just a cool $1 million. (The car, not the rent.)
Dang! Another missed investment opportunity!
Eleanor Builds:
Here's another one for a mere $189,995.00.
(Hmpph - Pocket change. I leave a bigger tip than that after good dinner...)

For that sort of money, I’d want something more practical ;)

Just wait til he finds out what taxes and insurance run. He’ll have that car sitting in his yard with a for sale sign before long.

Mercedes maintains possession and can put on display for special events. 100 million does not get you as much as you would think 🤣🤣🤣

So the new guy owns it but he doesn’t get to keep it in the garage?
Interesting

I would rip out the motor and put in an electric drive system. Gotta save the planet, y’know.

One of our guys showed up in a 1967 GT-500KR (as I recall) in the late 1970s.
Car looked brand new. Had the 427 though a 428 would have been cool too.
I’m sure he’s long gone. Drove by his old business location about a week ago. (On my way to somewhere else)

"The private buyer has agreed that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe will remain accessible for public display on special occasions, while the second original 300 SLR Coupe remains in company ownership and will continue to be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart," the auction company added.
per article…. I don’t know if he even gets to park it in his garage or not. If you need to ship back and forth for display, etc then it would become a very expensive car to own!

Top speed 290 km/h, or 180 mph. Still a fast car, even by today’s standards. The production 300SL could do 165 mph.
To: Lovely-Day-For-A-Guinness
My bid was just below the selling price as I had allowed funds for Dave Kindig to bring it up to today’s standards.
