A Maryland woman returned home from vacation to find two strangers in her bed and more than $49,000 in possessions stolen.(snip)
When the woman and her friend left for vacation on March 28, the apartment had been "fully furnished." Upon their return, they found the whole house in disorder.
"The living room was completely empty except for black trash bags filled with items, trash on the walls, the kitchen was completely empty and the cabinet doors were missing, the second bedroom was completely empty, the closets were completely empty and the bedroom was empty except for the bed the suspects were lying on," the police said.(snip)
When the woman attempted to leave the room, the man tackled her and told her that she could have her apartment back, but she was not allowed to call the police. The woman told police that she began filming him as he was gathering up his belongings and explaining how he entered her home, according to the outlet.
"I just couldn't believe this was happening to me. I see this on TV," the woman said. "They really took over my apartment, and I was just trying to remain calm. But at the same time, I just couldn't believe this was happening to me. I come home and literally two people are in my bed relaxing."
The police department was made aware that the man informed the woman that he planned to do this again at another apartment, according to the outlet.
While Maryland does not have a "Stand Your Ground" law, more than 20 states, including Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Texas, do.

And they would have spilled where the stuff was before shuffling off this mortal coil...
No one can get within 10 feet of 4 sides of my house without my cell phone being alerted. USPS, FedEx, Jehova, a cat. Whatevs...I will know. Highly recommend. Cheap deals available frequently.
I thought about that. Probably be long gone and untraceable as well as damaged.
Worth asking though. Just for the exercise. :)
Never post your vacation plans on Facebook or any other social media. You can post pictures and comments AFTER you return home.
“Shoot, shovel and shut up!”
I could only justify it if I believed i was in serious danger, I’d agree with you if that were the case. And I would definitely be erroring on the side of my personal safety, so any wrong move...

Oh well then.
How reasonable.

Just a bit difficult in an apartment complex.
When the woman attempted to leave the room, the man tackled her ...
BANG!
On the upside, she should be grateful they were just relaxing.
Given the scene described in the article I think it likely that is exactly what I would believe. But I take everything case by case.
One could take them out for lunch and have a heart to heart talk with them but ... nah!
Illinois man returns home and finds dead squatters in bed.
Exactly. She or her friend had to have blabbed to someone.
Unless you were extremely careful and circumspect you’d be on the shitty end of the legal stick. Just as an aside several years ago a couple from the north Atlanta area vanished and no trace of them has ever been found though a man they knew took their boat out for a night fishing trip around the time they vanished. police tried to find evidence tying him to their disappearance but were unsuccessful. Just sayin.
Another stupid statement by a person with all of the facts but not enough common sense to know what to do with them.
A stand your ground or castle law does not give you a blank check to shoot. Self defense laws according to the state in which the action takes place must be carefully followed.
Violating the law will not be excused by the castle law.
If I come back to the home I built and one or more pieces of human garbage have broken in and taken up residence, they will never be seen or heard from again.
I will not argue with you. I have found a word to the wise to be sufficient.
Those who are not wise are a waste of time.
‘You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way and the only way, it does not exist.’
