It's called 'shingles" from the cingulum or "sash". For some reason it often tends to show up radially around the torso. Thanks, Pierre!
The German word for it is Gürtelrose, meaning "belt of roses."

I got the Shingles vax last year, and the 2nd dose in January - sick for a day both times.
But that was after seeing a few years of clean data - I don't see the Covid Vax ever putting together two years of clean data. So no thanks.

I had the shingles on my ass. It was very uncomfortable for several weeks and I have a desk job. The shingles weren’t as bad as I thought the would be but not fun. I got the shingles vaccine after it was over.

"Experimental Gene Therapy? No." Assuming you mean the Covid vaccines, they don't do gene therapy.

The shot I had a few years ago was two-dose. I'm not aware of a single dose version then or now, but I guess there was one since you had it. Based on a brochure I was given when I had the new version in late 2021, it uses a "recombinant DNA" technology, not an mRNA technology. I became suspicious, but I can't say I've heard of any significant problems with the new version.
I became suspicion because it was mandated in late 2020, just as Covid was (as yet unknown) beginning to circulate and because suddenly I was seeing TV ads for it in moid-2021 just as bad publicity about the mRNA vaccines was coming out. To my paranoid mind, I thought they were trying to round up mRNA refuseniks with a different trap - the new shingles vaccine.

Umm, objecting to the WuhanFlu vax is not same thing.
I’ve had at least half dozen vaccines (not counting the always worthless flu vaccines), including shingles.
These are vaccines — they use actual “dead” bugs and this prevents infection.
The Pharm provides protection against “death” (yeah, side effects) but gives you nothing to prevent infection. Lacking that last, it is worthless to society. Calling it a vaccine ought to be a crime.

Since second dose seems to be worse than the first I wonder if it is possible to get the first dose..have some protection but not get the second dose for those of us that might have a issue with the vaccine.

Everyone is so literal. Geez, cool down.
One of my cronies was hospitalized for shingles and ended up scarred and blind in one eye and addicted to opiates. The wife of another had pock mark scarring on the entire left side of her face and has had many plastic surgeries. When I had shingles as a 20 year old, I was out of school for 6 weeks.
Now, it isn’t losing a child, but, you can’t get a vaccine for that and it sure is worse than Covid.

The full cost was $200 and something for 1 shot. Already tossed the receipt. But my net cost was $0 with insurance. Maybe I already met my deductible. I lost track of that.

The shingles vaccine was mandated? Are you in the military? Or a workplace mandate?
Covid wasn’t even mandated outside of CMS and certain workplaces, mostly medical.

I wore mascara today, first time in 10 years. In a few days I’ll try wearing it again. It used to make my eyes feel funny.
Perhaps I should start a post about it.

Got mine several years ago. Insurance paid it all at CVS. My grandmother had shingles. Pretty nasty.

Then, I can hope you get it. Forget the vaccine. Let me know how it goes.
