After being accused of sexually assaulting a student last year, a former New Hampshire teacher of the year finalist is facing criminal charges.
This is the first case that County Attorney Patricia Conway’s office would prosecute under a relatively new statute that focuses on the relationship of authority over an alleged victim rather than their age.
Bridgette Doucette-Howell, 38, was charged in April and May 2021 with three counts of serious felonious sexual assault of an 18-year-old. The accuser was a Sanborn Regional High School student.
Doucette-Howell worked as an extracurricular activity theatre coach at the high school on a limited basis, according to the superintendent, and has not been affiliated with the district since. The Department of Education has suspended her instructor license, citing its top responsibility as preserving the safety of children.
No, if you read the article, there is a new statute that applies for 8 months after graduation regardless of age. So the age doesn't actually matter.
*checks picture*
Yeah I’m going to have to go with guilty. But after maybe..five or six beers or so..not THAT guilty. The victim is over age after all. Maybe some community service and she can reapply after 7-10 years.
That’s probably her 15-20 years ago.
Teacher From Amherst First To Face ‘Howie Leung Loophole’ Law Charges
But if the advances were not unwanted, then how did the authorities find out in order to press charges? The article says "[t]he accuser was a Sanborn Regional High School student." If there was an "accuser," then one would assume that the advances were unwanted.
I don’t know. Apparently some students saw them kiss.
But she is charged with 3 counts based on intercourse and one count based on the kiss.
I think you're right. The article lists her Twitter account and that photo is her thumbnail pic. There are only two Tweets from 2009, so unless she deleted the rest of her Tweets, that would place the pic from 2009. If she's 38 now, she would have been 25.
This sort of implies that it was consensual, and the "victim" was of legal age. While I would be inclined to vote "Guilty" based on visual evidence, I tend to think the law is a little out of whack.
I see that too.
With a hyphenated surname for the perp, I’m betting the victim is a girl.
Calling a horny 18 year old boy a “victim” is a bit of a stretch.
I’m sure all of his friends wish they were victimized like that.

I had sex with an older female HS girls PE coach. She was 24 and I was 22. Do I get to claim victim status? /s

Bridgette Doucette-Howell of Amherst and Merrimack was indicted in March after a 10-month investigation into accusations she had sex with and kissed an 18-year-old male student in both Exeter and Kingston between April 26 and May 13, 2021, while she was an employee, contractor, or volunteer with a primary or secondary educational institution where the person was a student.
