The World Record Breaking Welsh Bull Called Rambo Worth £189,000

Gerwyn Jones is still coming to terms with the £189,000 he pocketed for his first pedigree Limousine

A Welsh farmer has collected a world record breaking price for a “special” bull described as one of the best ever to come onto the market. Gerwyn Jones, of Graig Goch Farm, Nebo, in Conwy saw bids fly in for Graiggoch Rambo at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s May bull sale in Cumbria.

He said he was "delighted" when the hammer came down at an incredible 180,000gns (£189,000) – the highest price ever paid for a Limousin bull, NorthWalesLive reports. The proceeds are enough to buy a house in Gerwyn’s local town of Llanrwst where, according to Rightmove, properties averaged £187,157 in the past year. However, the proceeds are likely to be reinvested in breeding stock.

Remarkably, it was Gerwyn’s first pedigree Limousin and his first foray to Borderway Mart, Carlisle. After the sale, he said: “The events of the weekend are only just sinking in.

“After working with experienced breeders for a long time, I knew Rambo was something special, which was confirmed by the interest and offers received at home prior to the sale. Due to the attention he was attracting, I was concerned it may deter under-bidders, thankfully this was not the case. I am delighted that my first pedigree registered Limousin has sold so amazingly well.”

“Rambo will be going straight to stud to have semen taken.”

I don’t know how well that will work. From his picture he doesn’t look very horny.

Haha, they just use a machine then freeze the result. Very romantic.

There’s a machine for that now?

Back in the day, the collection was a very dynamic process.

This is my experience: Visiting “the old folks’ farm” in the 1960s, I happened to notice a calendar hanging on the kitchen wall with various bulls on it and advertisements for their j1zz. I expressed curiosity and my uncle explained how they bring a machine to obtain the stuff and then store it in a large refrigerated canister. A technician would bring the canisters around to everyone who subscribed and use a syringe to impregnant the cows.

He showed me some of the canisters. By that time I was sorry I asked, but it was too late.

He also explained that some of the bulls are so large and heavy that the usual mating process for them was not cost-effective - they have to transport the bull, find the cows who are in estrus, get them all rounded up, and after all that maybe nothing happens.

That was how it was explained to me. Again, I was appalled. My mom, however, laughed and laughed and laughed.

Wanna put a Democrat on the spot?

Ask them if it’s a bull or a cow.

A Welsh bull. Nothing like an Irish bull.

(An Irish bull was an old term for the kinds of statements that Yogi Berra was later famous for making.)

I scrolled down to find a comment like this!!

200,000 wouldn’t get most Auctioneers all that excited. AI vials are becoming the new norm, especially when attempting to st diversify or improve herds.

Have a friend who has been doing so for years and is experiencing better than 75 percent pregnancy rates.
