This footage is truly terrifying when you consider the prospect that should scientists transfer the technology to Beijing, or perhaps even the military, they may utilize the superior drone technology to target humans. Watch as the autonomous Chinese drone swarm flies through forest while hunting for humans.
A swarm of micro-drones maneuvered a thick bamboo forest in China without using GPS, avoiding trees, branches, and brush. The stunning film shows that these drones could one day be employed for search and rescue operations or even more sinister purposes, such as human hunts.
Chinese scientists from Zhejiang University produced a report and video of ten lightweight drones flying across a forest at high speeds. The drones’ technology independently traverses the optimum flight route using high-tech sensors.
In a document published Wednesday in the journal Science Robotics, lead author Xin Zhou stated that “multi-robot aerial systems are a symbol of future technology” citing science fiction movies such as Prometheus (2012), Ender’s Game (2013), Star Wars: Episode III (2005), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), which “inspired” the research group.

In another experiment, Zhou and his colleagues demonstrated that a drone swarm could pursue a human “target” through a forest.
Enrica Soria, of the laboratory of intelligent systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, commented on the groundbreaking findings, telling The Telegraph:
“This work presents a notable contribution to the robotics community and an important step towards the application of drone swarms beyond the constrained environment of a laboratory, not only for exploration in forests but also for a range of safety-critical missions in human-made environments, such as urban areas with humans and buildings.”
What is frightening is that should scientists transfer the technology to Beijing, or perhaps even the military, they may utilize the superior drone technology to target humans, if just for domestic surveillance, or outfit it with weaponry for the modern warfare.
Around five years ago, the world’s top AI researchers and humanitarian organizations issued a warning concerning lethal autonomous weapons systems, often known as killer robots, that pick and execute targets without human intervention. This dystopic film depicting “slaughter bots.” was released by the Future of Life Institute.

Like a Michael Crichton novel.
There are people who see this and think it is the most awesome thing ever.
Good God. I am on the verge of becoming a luddite.
There is an old Star Trek NG episode called “Arsenal of Democracy” that deals with this. It is one of the better episodes.
Actually, I bet those drones have a very short range.
Good thing we have rights here in the US.
Thanks, RN.

With this type of tech, It's not like you're going to be allowed to go Amish and enjoy a technology free community.
The only option is to build better faster smarter tech to counter the threat.
Build your own drone army and collect the enemy drone army before they are delivered if you can.
I think it was Elon Musk who warned that AI has the potential to cause more damage than nuclear weapons. Especially if they’re autonomous and can replicate.
Dr. Robotnik (from Sonic The Hedgehog) fame.
There is some tech being developed that effectively destroys or disables pretty much anything with an integrated circuit that is not so heavily shielded that flight is unlikely.
It’s not terribly energy consuming, either.
Anti-drone fences and areas will become a thing shortly.
Problem is they are not discriminatory. So you basically create a Luddite zone. Back to WWII tech.
Expect a swarm in a sporting event near you. I’ve said a long time this simple technology will be the most feared terrorist tool yet. Let a few hundred armed drones into a stadium or event and there is no way to stop them.
Sporting clays move over drone hunting is the new competitive sport.
US Media doesn’t discuss it - nor does our Government - but under covid, China has ALREADY become a bizarre marxist techno-dystopia and tyranny.
Literally every Chinese covid testing status is tracked. You must have “green” status on your cell-phone to enter any building in large cities. Your color-status can change at any time and woe to you if you are caught outside when it does. GPS tracks your location and local police can detect any “unauthorized” outsiders entering their jurisdiction.
The “covid zero” facade is merely a pretense for rollout of this dystopian system - and Xi Jinping’s political and social schemes to cement power for him and his cronies forever.
When our rights finally do run out here in America, my nightmares usually include gubmint C-130 gunships with their all seeing human target acquisition capabilities
No match for my 870.
“I bet those drones have a very short range.”
A shorter range than they’ll have tomorrow.
With #7 turkey shot.
Also true
I bet they will still be vulnerable to auto-fire rounds though
It's hard to believe this news story about a Colorado town legalizing drone shooting is from eight years ago:
