Oh that's okay. Just give the land to someone else like we are doing in the United States.

3 Factors that heavily influence birth date.

1. % of women between age of 20-30 who are married
2. Female participation rate in the labor force
3. Divorce rate.

No amount of incentives can change the birth rate unless these 3 fundamental numbers change.

Freepers used to do basic research. Now, so many turn off their brains and blindly follow whatever character is presented to them.

???????????

That is one of the few ideas the Catholic Church got right about the Bible. It certainly wasn’t their idea.

Japan is quite literally, overcrowded, though. Yes, tue Japs have been rather well -behaved under our boot for 75 years, but I prefer depopulation vs. Japan seeking living space once again.

Wow, you covered both racism and genocide in one post. Congrats!

I’d agree to a point...but not on this topic. There’s challenges that are engrained in the problem. It’s not just birth rates going down, people in Japan are having less sex! Fewer married couples *want* children, offering financial benefits may help but it isn’t enough.

I was talking to a colleague in Japan about this. He mentioned that they’re taking care of the problem through immigration. I was surprised, he mentioned I’d been walking past many people that weren’t Japanese but probably wouldn’t have noticed. Which was very intriguing, when they say “immigration”, they don’t mean non-Asians (white/black/middle-eastern, etc.), only those from Asian countries (yet they claim there’s no ‘racism’ in Japan, which makes me chuckle a bit).

The problem, as I understand it, is worse in China. Even though they’ve stopped the “one child” policy, they can’t change the economic situation most couples find themselves, and the government can’t provide economic support for so many people to have more kids. Even though they’re allowed to now, they’re choosing not to.

This seems to be a huge problem and isn’t an easy fix.

Rather, it was the common idea of all humanity that almost every other organization summarily forgot.

Encouraging high birth rates or even replacement birth rates in relatively free societies with decent standards of living and equality for women is something that has not been achieved yet. Japan hasn’t solved it, and neither have we - if not for legal and illegal immigration, the US population would be shrinking right now.

So what did we know in the 40s and 50s that we forgot?

Japan is way far over-crowded. Just way far too many people attempting to live there. With a 25% reduction of population, the Japanese would more than likely feel happier about having better ease of movement. Too many people everywhere causes a person to feel constricted.

I remember in the 1980s when the Japs were buying real estate all over Hawaii, the west coast of the US and many other places. Now, 30 years later we are talking about the end of their country.

They are just lucky the “divine wind” saved them from Kublai Khan.

Japan can fix their problem quickly.

Step 1—Choose a goal. Since you need three children to increase population you can use that.

Step 2—Create strong incentives. How about twenty years income tax free for married couples who have three children. You could have a more sophisticated sliding scale—20% tax reduction for first child, 50% for two children, 100% for three children, and a subsidy on top of that as well.

There are dozens of other incentives that could be created as well.

“No amount of incentives can change the birth rate unless these 3 fundamental numbers change.”

In my view those “fundamental numbers” are a function of economic incentives and mass media propaganda.

If married people with children were viewed as patriotic and rewarded with strong tax benefits and subsidies the cultural trends could turn—almost on a dime.

Women in particular are very susceptible to propaganda and “what every one else is doing”.

It is stunningly easy to change the birth rate—all it takes is a government determined to make it happen.

The point is, no amount of propaganda is going to get women to birth more children if they don’t get married until they are in their 30s and have a full time job.

At that point all the tax incentives in the world is not going to make much difference because biologically they aren’t getting started until they are past their birthing prime.
