First Time Visit To New York City Recommend Things to See and Do
Me | 5/8/2022 | Me

Wife and I are planning a weeks trip to NYC, I’ve never been so I’m looking for recommendations on things to see or do. We’re planning on at least 1 broadway show and the MOMA but if you know of a cool thing or something really interesting I’d love to hear your suggestion, thanks in advance.

And keep your spidey senses on.

Keep your money/cards close and in sight. Bring nothing valuable. Wear walking shoes. Tgat sidewalk eats you up after a mile or two
Bring dr schools moleskin cut up into small squares. As soon as you feel pressure sore, stick one of those on.

Have a great time! The food can be incredible. Make sure you grab your change fast at a bar lest the bartender presume it to be a tip regardless of the amount.

I’ll never get another chance to see the Big Apple.

Have dinner down in Little Italy at one of the restaurants where you eat on the sidewalk if it is nice out.

I understand your desire to see what you think is The Big Apple. Now may not be the time, especially for a first-time, out-of-towner.

NYC is a sh!thole. Take a look at some Police and Crime reports.

I’d hate for you to put yourself and family in danger while wasting an enormous amount of money at the same time.

Not much going on at the Garden. Someone suggested the Circle Line- they have dinner cruises and lunch cruises which are very good on that pier as well.

Have to go to Macy’s- great department store.

Be aware of the 9-11 Memorial; the first time i went i had to leave after 10 minutes. Could not take it.

I would try and take in a Mets of Yankees game. Citifield where the Mets play is a much nice stadium but Yankee Stadium has great history.

Rockefeller Center is always nice. See what’s going on at Radio City Music Hall when you are in town.

My favorite museum is the Frick Collection on Fifth Avenue. It has Vermeers in it! Plus you get to see how millionaires lived in New York in the 19th century (this was Henry Clay Frick’s home).

If you only have time for one museum, it should be this one.

But, if you’re at the MOMA, you’re only half a block from the church I used to attend, St. Thomas Fifth Avenue. Prettiest church ever, great men & boys choir. I do know if they’re back to services every day or not.

You’re exactly right.

As someone who used to visit/stay (with family/friends) OFTEN.....we wouldn’t go back there, for much of anything.

We’re supposed to be there, right now, in fact. A group of business associates were going to hold a conference there, but....due to total lack of interest....cancelled the whole thing.

We used to take the subway to ball games, would walk from dinner to a show.....even walked all the way back to our room, from Flatiron to Central Park area, one beautiful night. Not a chance we’d do that, now.

No, NYC isn’t safe or even attractive, any more. Grime and crime on every street.

They completely destroyed one of the greatest cities on Earth.

Maybe you can change your plans to FL.

Get a slice of cheesecake at Junior’s. The main location is in Brooklyn right near a major subway station. (Atlantic Ave.? I can’t remember.) They also have one built since the last time I was there in one of the very big Manhattan stations, either Penn Station or Grand Central. In addition to their famous cheesecake, it’s also a full-service restaurant.

Back in the day the 2nd Ave. Delicatessen was nice as well. Don’t know if it’s still open.

Don’t smoke on the street. You’ll be accosted by bums asking for a cig who will get violent if you refuse.

ps

Don’t look at anybody in the eye. Keep your head down and keep moving.

Highly recommend you DON’T go to Washington Sq Park- its infested with druggies and has turned into a complete craphole. The area around it is nice.

They do have the handsome cab rides in the Park. Its usually best around the holidays but good anytime of year. Go for the extended ride- not the 30 minute version. Also best to go during the day as you see more.

And, by the way, if anyone offers you “loose joints” they are not chiropractors.
