A Yellowstone Grizzly Bear crept up on a man hiking off trail in the wilderness, a tense video shows.
Stan Mills posted the footage to his YouTube channel, which shows him hiking through a remote area of the park.
"I was sitting in the rain under my poncho just kinda gazing off into the distance while resting under a tree when I took a look to my left. I immediately saw a grizzly walking toward me." Mills said in a caption to the video. "I was not very visible to the bear because I was under my poncho but the grizzly finally spotted me from the movement I was making while going after my bear spay and then my camera."

Instead of bear spray and camera, he should have reached for his AR-50 (AA Beowulf .50cal w/ 425gr FMJs). I take mine plus the Kimber 1911 .45cal along when I’m out in that setting.
I'm surprised he lived to tell the tale.
What a waste of time. Going for view hits only here. Watch the past couple minutes for the bear. In such instances, I route for the bear as I hate to see them killed because of some tree hugger. Far more humans than bears.
I thought it was interesting to see the landscape. And the rain sounds were nice.
Griz v. Black bear?
Excellent quality photography.
Unless authorized, the use or discharge of a firearm within a park area is prohibited. 36 CFR 2.4(b) and 13.30(c). In parks where hunting is specifically mandated or authorized by federal statute, firearms may be used to hunt in accordance with NPS regulations and state laws. 36 CFR 2.2. Maybe it was Yogi Bear with a pic-a-nic basket
The bears were there first.

Ever been to a National Park?
They’re interesting places. You have to leave your man-toys at home, though.
I’ve seen youtube videos where a black bear walks up into a back porch and a house cat gets all shreky at the bear, causing the bear to high tail out.
I don’t take the AR-50 or 7.62x51/.308 — or anything visible — if I go there. But I have “other places” up in the Poconos to do some exploring, where I take serious protection along.
No reason to kill a bear unless it is trying to kill you. Don’t provoke them.
No, they were not.
People were in North America long before Grizzly bears were.
Grizzly bears are more of an exotic migrant to North America than people are.
“The bears were there first”
My uncle has a chain saw.
What does that have to do with anything?
U R funny.

Not anymore. The federal firearms ban in national parks was repealed in 2010 and now parks follow state rules. The ban on firearms in federally owned/operated building still exists, though, so you can't take them into the gift shop.
Agreed.
I don’t like having to kill anything.
I avoid their territory, if at all possible. But I want to have the firepower to make a clean kill, only if I have no other choice.
