AP news states flatly that:
Mail-in voting isn’t allowed in France.
What's the usual reason invoked by French politicians in making this prohibition?
Note that the French voting system has many detailed rules to make it especially transparent to all voters: (literally) transparent ballot box, ballots are counted on the spot (never leaving the room and the sight of everybody who cares to be there), several people are involved in every operation, the tally for a given polling place is posted on the door and/or on the door of the town hall and can be found in the local newspaper (or, now, online) the next day, etc.
France allowed mail-in voting from 1958 to 1975. It was replaced by proxy voting by law 75-1239 in December 1975. The reasons given at the time to get rid of mail-in voting are the same reasons not to reintroduce it today, namely, that it CAN AND DID PERMIT SIGNIFICANT FRAUD.
The voting process in France ensures that EVERY POINT of the chain of custody of votes and vote tallies is verified by multiple people, and ANY VOTER is authorized to observe it. Voting is done with paper ballots which the voter places in a transparent ballot box, which never leaves the polling station.

And that is down to the most local levels: city councils, school boards, zoning boards, county commissions. Still lots of money and power to amass, even on those rungs of the ladder. Once they get a taste there, they move up to the state level and if they're really lucky, they get to go to DC. There are exceptions, but they seem to be few and far between. And the machine eventually figures out a way to get rid of them.
One of the first things I took from reading this is.....EVERY French citizen has STANDING.
I worked the elections in Iraq in 2009. I trust them, the purple ink and the gigantic paper ballots over whatever we have here, any day of the week.
Here in Georgia, we're starting to see ads for Raffensberger and how wonderful he is. How the clowns in the Gold Dome passed an amazing new voting law. The law didn't do much of anything. We ALREADY had a Voter ID law.
It did do two things though(with a special SHOUT OUT to all you Kemp-Duncan-Carr-Ralston-Miller-Raffensberger fans out there)....it codified two things which were NOT codified in the 2020 election nor in the 2021 Senate run-off..........Mail In Voting and Drop Boxes. Now they can control the outcome of every election and we here in Georgia seem to be ok with it.
Interestingly, I believe Butch Miller was one of the signatories on an amicus brief AGAINST VoterGA and Favorito in conducting an audit of the elections. The original draft of last years election/voting overhaul bill contained language that BANNED: Mail In Voting and Drop Boxes. That language was removed under orders of "leadership". Now, Butch Miller, who is running for Lt Governor, is campaigning on getting rid of Mail In Voting and Drop Boxes. He is the Ga Senate Majority Leader. He had all the opportunity in the world to make sure that language wasn't removed and voted on. And it would have passed. But now, he needs it for his campaign, just like Kemp needing Constitutional Carry for his.
Sadly, Kemp, Miller, Raffensberger have a chance. Georgia has open primaries and that means that the Dem's and the preachers will get out and vote for these scumbags to try and make sure they get the nod. Just like they do in so many other places, ie South Carolina.
Sorry for the rant on Georgia. My state is swirling the bowl. It can be saved with the right folks in Atlanta. Is Perdue one of them. He isn't my number 1 choice, but I'll say that I think he's exponentially better then that POS Kemp. But, Kemp has lots of support here on FR. It comes from folks that THINK they're Conservative, but are just as much a RINO as he and the rest are and/or the type that, no matter how much they may profess, absolutely could not care less about anyone else.
My mom was a GOP poll worker and canvasser for 30 years through the 1950s-1970s. It was when the big, old mechanical voting machines were used. Absentee ballots had to be requested weeks before the election - and returned before election day.
the polls would close, the votes would be tabulated throughout the county, and she would be home within 90 minutes to watch national results on TV. There was never any dispute - and people trusted the system.
I wonder how France deals with the non-stop BS hype/claims pushing for alternative voting systems such as: “minorities have to wait in long lines,” or “how can home-bound people vote?” or “some people are too afraid of covid to vote in public?”
The United States has the distinction of having an election system that is the most difficult to detect fraud. It was designed that way, through decades of laws concocted by democrats. Without it, the democrat party would be relatively powerless.
A number of differences though
1. Everyone gets an id care, automatically.
2. There are no voting queues, or if there are, it is done in 15 min or so
3. Elections are always on Sunday, so people don’t need to take a day off from work
Sometimes the old ways are the best. They need to open more polling places so lines are manageable, if the line is too long they need either another polling place or more booths and poll workers. We always knew who won on election night.
Mail in voting should be limited to those unable to go to the polls (not just inconvenient) and any mail in ballot received after the polls close are not counted.
I was telling a friend in Canada about how some US states do not require and ID to vote. He was flabbergasted. He immediately said that would make it too easy to cheat. That in national elections Canada uses the exact same paper ballot from New Brunswick all the way to BC.
The U.S. Congress (I think it was in BJClinton’s time) had a bipartisan commission tasked with looking into the pros and cons of mass mail in voting. The result of it’s work was a definite oppostion to mass mail in balloting, because of the opportunities and the ease of the opportunities for fraud.
The Dims used the “pandemic” as the exccuse for the mass confusion and mass fraud that mass mail in balloting would produce. One of the objectives they obtained , with the combination of the mass mail in balloting, early voting, late voting and changing rules about the process on the fly, was to shrink the time from between when everything could be acccounted for and when legislative approval of the votes had to be passed. The shrunken time frame was to intentionally make any challenges harder to obtain in the time allowed.
Because they want honest elections?
And that is where all they have to do is expand the criteria for absentee ballots.
Both come and go by mail.
Absentee ballot requested and sent to a registered voter.
Mail In goes to any and every address. Just like they did in Nevada. One sent to every address in the phone book. What could go wrong
