“I’ve always liked Cyndi Laupner.” ...................
Do they ever!
After all these years, still a good tune.
The original video for this song was fun and innocent.
However, when I saw CL in concert in2018, she used the song in a video supporting abortion and Planned parenthood.
I will never have anything to do with her again after that.
(((BTW, she was opening for Rod Stewart, who made her look like a rank amateur)))
I knew a girl back in the 90s who was musically talented, played multiple instruments and was a great singer. She had even taken a couple of opera classes in college. I asked her opinion of the current female singers and the first name she mentioned was Cyndi Lauper. She thought Lauper was head and shoulders above the rest of the pop/rock singers.
A few years later the wife got free tickets to see Lauper who was on a r&b tour with a backing band of old Memphis blues musicians. The only reason I went is because I remembered my friend raving about her. I’ve got to say my friend was right, Lauper killed it in concert.
Featuring two legendary figures - Cyndi Lauper and Captain Lou Albano.
The cover song that launched a career. I bet the original group that recorded the song was pretty jealous, unless they got good royalties.
I’m a boys varsity lacrosse head coach at a Catholic HS.
I was at a girls MS game there to watch my daughter, and took over scoreboard and loudspeaker duty because no parents volunteered.
When my daughter got her hat trick, I played this song and 3 woke moms started screaming at me that it was sexist. The song played on….
I like this cover of ‘Girls...’ by the Spanish group Broken Peach:

One of my favourite interviews with Cyndi was when she was asked about the quirky look she developed, and she said it was mainly because, early in her career, she was so broke that she could only shop at NYC second-hand stores, so her entire look was thrift-store clothing, and cheap makeup, and she made it work. She said the outfit she wore for the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” video cost her less than $25. (1983 dollars, of course)
Weird Al did a good parody: Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch. However, it has perhaps his worst video, so stick to the audio.
Ann Coulter? once said that abortion allows women to be as irresponsible about sex as men.
Girls want to have fun song - 1984 zombie movie, Night of the Comet!
