There, inside a closed coffin and just when she was about to be buried, suddenly the woman who was presumed dead began to hit the coffin from inside, causing a commotion in all those present.

She’s lucky the mortician stiffed the family on the embalming.
I hope a my funeral someone hears a fart followed by a “oh man, bad move in a coffin “.
Now, for a real creeply but true part.
Decades ago they expanded Fort Rucker in Alabama and had to move a graveyard...it was reported that when they moved the deteroriated caskets that they discovered fingernails in the inside top of a number of caskets. It was determined that these people had a case of sleeping sickness. This is the same area where my mother and her relatives are from.
There should be a movie in this story somewhere.
I can believe that! I have read other stories about people being buried that were not dead. There is not much I can think of that is worse than being buried alive.

Maybe this will let you see a different view.
Oh, GREAT...now coffins will come with one of those WARNING labels on the outside and mess with the outside beauty of a coffin!!! /s
LOL, loved it! My grandmother’s side of the family is Irish and I had heard stories of wakes but only attended the one.
I thought you might. I get a kick out of it every time I hear it.
It has long been my understanding that Irish wakes are somewhat of a party during which they drink and talk about their fond memories of the deceased.
On a related note, "Waking Ned Devine" is a great movie, and if you haven't seen it, you will thank me for telling you about it.
It's Irish, and even made in Ireland. It is a comedy with some very classy poignant parts.

Expression be a dead ringer for “resemble closely” (1891) preserves ringer in the horse-racing slang sense of “a fast horse entered fraudulently in a race in place of a slow one.” The verb to ring in reference to this is attested from 1812, possibly from British ring in “substitute, exchange,” via ring the changes, “substitute counterfeit money for good,” a pun on ring the changes in the sense of “play the regular series of variations in a peal of bells” (1610s).
I’ll look for it. My grandfather’s side are Scottish and my grandmother’s side are Irish. Funerals in my family aren’t wakes but they aren’t sad, crying, wailing theatrics either. They are more like a family reunion where people tell funny stories and tales about the deceased with a lot of good food. I guess they call it a “celebration of life” now.
I like this method better.
I've told my kids that "when I die, throw a party for me."
I also told them to bury me in my "Bettlejuice costume" which I made myself. :)

The joke is for the people who might dig me up one day. :)
So. We now know they (at least this group) don’t embalm the dead before burial.
So, from what I understand, she was alive, got into a wreck, presumed dead, buried the next day, but was alive enough to knock on the coffin loud enough to be heard outdoors, the funeral director was reluctant to open the casket, but finally did so - they found her alive, got her to a hospital, and then died a few hours later?
WTF?
Hey Baby Que Pasó...
That would be very scary for the people that dug you up. 😁
