Large volcanic eruptions, on the scale they are talking about here, cause global cooling for years afterwards due to the amount of ash and gases it throws high into the atmosphere

Yep here a ‘scholarly’ paper on basaltic lava floods that does not even mention the Siberian or Deccan Traps - the million year long lava floods on Earth.

The notion that lava floods cause climate warming again becomes a problem when people die of starvation in those times of violent volcanic activity. When those same periods record record cold temperatures, dark skies and plant death, how is that warming?

However, in reality both the great lava floods on Earth occurred millions of years before any human is supposed to have walked the Earth.

Sounds like the people that wrote the paper believe all changes in climate cause warming. Like any hint of cooling will destroy the entire meme.
