The poor performance of Russian equipment deployed in the Ukraine war is bound to be giving global buyers second thoughts.
How can it be that a large Russian army attacking force, capable of causing untold destruction, is being checkmated and systematically devastated by Ukraine’s military, in particular its special forces?
And what impact will this have on the Russian army and its industrial backbone, the Russian companies that build the tanks, armored personnel carriers, mobile air defenses and aircraft including fixed-wing and helicopters – all of which have suffered extreme losses in the conflict?
Russia’s exports consist of various commodities, most prominently wheat, oil and gas, and armaments. Before the Ukraine war, Russian arms sales were doing brisk business with an order book running at around $55 billion.
Russia was able to offer capable weapons at a considerable discount over Western companies jousting for the same market and, in some cases, systems that outmatched the competition, such as the Russia-made S-400 air defense system.
But now, with Russian armor, fighter jets, helicopters and mobile air defense systems being blasted by Ukrainian fighters for the world to see, a once rosy sales outlook for Moscow’s arms builders is looking grim.
Interestingly, Russia was able to avoid blame for the crushing defeat of Armenia’s forces (equipped by Russia) by the hybrid forces in Azerbaijan (equipped by Russia, Israel and Turkey).
The key to the Nagorno-Karabakh war was the impact of armed drones and Israeli loitering munitions that zeroed in on enemy air defenses, radars and missile launchers, and crushed them.
One would have thought, given what the Russians surely should have learned from Nagorno-Karabakh, they would have recognized the need to have defenses against drones and loitering munitions in their invasion forces in Ukraine.

Russia would sell their stuff and it would perform poorly in encounters. We all thought it was the personnel. Who knew it just sucked?
It won’t be zero. There are lots of countries that can’t buy weapons because they make China seem benign. In a third world place where starvation is normal, a tank is a tank is a tank. Nobody has the means to overcome it. It Egypt tanks are used as mobile pill boxes, moving about with no infantry because they are big, impenetrable (by the starving masses) steel boxes. Also, they make great machine guns. Those never go out of style.

Good thing our tanks and ships are immune to these drone attacks.
How much of this is American disinformation. And ukraine disinformation.
I think the people in procurement are smart enough to base their policies on reality and not on Daily Mail propaganda.
It is safe to assume that more Bayraktar drones were downed than the stuff they managed to destroy in Ukraine. They weren’t decisive in the Armenian war either.
Helicopters and jets are cheaper and they’re of a proven quality. Plus 3rd world military are user to Russian equipment. That’s why the Afghan military flew Russian helicopters (before the fall of Kabul).
It’s not the Daily Mail, but nice try.
The Russian drones are of even lower quality than the rest of their equipment.

And that’s why the Taliban was happy for the upgrades handed to them by the Biden regime.
The propaganda is all the same recently. The problem for the Russian MIC are sanctions on countries buying weapons but it can be negotiated by moving the technology and production to China.
If the goal is to keep a lid on their own citizens, perhaps. Their AK47s have been sold and knocked off to the tune of 300 million or so, and are widely available, as is the ammo.
While the Russia and Chechen thugs and cutthroats are stealing cars from Ukrainians they murder, the Ukrainians are continually attacking and destroying Russian military equipment. Drones are cheaper, they are unmanned, and they are good for more than one job.
It could be the days of tanks and similar vehicles are over no matter who makes them. It happened to the battleship.
On the other hand the missiles have performed, just as they did in Syria. It seems countries like India, China and Russia have placed increased emphasis on this area.
The US is behind in this area but we did have a successful hypersonic missile test not long ago, so we’re probably closing the gap quickly.

actually, in the case of the russkie-uke war, it’s pretty evident that it’s the equipment, rank & file soldiers, the NCO corp, the officer corp, the top military leadership, the tactics AND the strategies that ALL suck ...
The Russian propaganda is all the same recently, as it has always been. Russia can't sell what it is slowly using up, which will remain a problem for whomever succeeds the Imploder.
