Why does Russia need a land invasion buffer if NATO supremacy is linked to airspace?
The two biggest countries I remember invading another sovereign country in my lifetime with columns of tanks and soldiers in addition to having significant air power are Iraq with Gulf War One... and Putin’s Russia.

Ukraine was being set up to join NATO. The Russians may be a little paranoid, but it wouldn't be a land bridge.
