This article where AFT head Randi Weingarten said -

We're not indoctrinating, We're not grooming. … What we're doing is making sure we educate kids. We keep them safe. We keep them welcome. And we teach them how to think, not what to think.

-got me fired-up, and lead me on a search for empirical research on sexual misconduct in schools.

In short, NOBODY is really researching the subject. This research was the only comprehensive research I could find, and it's 18-years old. This is stunning: such a huge problem and it's getting no academic research. This is probably due to an unspoken blackballing that'd happen to academics who shine light on this grotesque underbelly of education.

Other posts on this subject include this Ted Talk about Stopping Sexual Abuse by School Employees stating that 5.7 million students have faced sexual abuse from school employees across all 50 states in America and this article on how predatory teachers stay on the job.

The recent groomer sensation has (finally) riled up people, and the trans and same-sex dimension has been the magnet. Fair enough, and while same-sex educator-student abuse at about 30% of instances is higher vs this group's composition in society, opposite sex educator-student abuse at 70%+ of all misconduct remains in the majority.

And people wonder why homeschooling is on the ascent...

Exactly. Makes me wonder who or what group if preventing “discovery”’

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Young teacher, the subject
Of a schoolgirl fantasy

She wants him so badly

Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there’s longing

This girl’s an open page
Book marking - she’s so close now
This girl is half his age

Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me
Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me

Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it’s not so easy
To be the teacher’s pet

Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she’s waiting
His car is warm and dry

Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me
Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me

Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try

Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly

It’s no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabokov

Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me
Don’t stand, don’t stand so
Don’t stand so close to me

Re: “...roughly 10 percent of students experience sexual misconduct by a teacher... “
^^^^^^^^^^^

What about the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse from **students**? What is that percentage.

Teacher abuse added to student abuse and why would any parent risk this for their child? Is the free babysitting really worth it?

No wonder homeschooling is growing.

Isn’t it “sexual misconduct” when a doctor cuts an underage boy’s testicles off? Yet doctors in this country do it everyday.

There is one thing about these young women teachers and boys today that mystifies an old man like me. They, (the teachers that have sex with the young boys) are almost all really fine looking. It’s not the fat ugly ones with the green hair and the nose ring. The part I don’t understand is why these so called “young male victims” turn the teacher in and get her jailed for stautory rape. When I was in school, we would have loved to have a teacher like that and took advantage of every opportunity presented. We would have lied our asses off to protect her, and certainly never told our parents. Low testosterone these days I guess, the pussification of America. What else could explain it.

Sexual misconduct is a broader term that includes sexual abuse and also includes acts that are not criminal but against school ethical codes. In other words, in states where the legal age of consent is 16, it is not technically illegal for a school employee to have sexual contact with a student aged 16. However, sexual contact is prohibited by school policy.

No, if the state has the doctrine of in loco parentis, the teacher is considered to be a parent under the law, and there can be no consent. So, that would still be considered statutory rape. Do note that police usually aren't considered to be acting in loco parentis. So, cops in schools might be able to have sexual relationships with minors over the age of consent, while teachers would be prohibited.

However, the point being made is that teachers can get romantically or emotionally involved with their students. That violates ethical standards set by the state dept. of education. So while not criminal, the teacher can lose his/her teaching license for violations of those policies, and the burden of proof is less than a criminal trial. The police don't regulate teaching licenses.

Lastly, I can't help but noting that the broader issue tends to be the modern hedonistic trend to remove sex, (and procreation), from marriage. Say whatever you want about Mary Kay Latourneau, she married her lover and they had a family together. That used to make things all right, even if people thought it scandalous. Once family doesn't matter anymore, then everything becomes criminal.
