Why do we still call it “sunrise” even though we know the sun isn’t actually moving?
Some phrases just stick.
Sunrise is the sun rising over the horizon. It makes sense. Duh.
It is easier than saying, ‘I can’t wait until the earth rotates enough to see the sun again.’
The left appends the prefix “so called” to terms they dispute (”partial birth abortion” “don’t say gay bill”). Just demand that “fossil fuels” be preceded by “so called” and everybody’s happy.
‘Some phrases just stick.’
why do we call it a ‘driveway’ when we park on it, and a ‘parkway’ when we drive on it...?
Is the essayist a grammar nazi or science nazi? Is he afraid that someone might find a fossil in his backyard and try to shove it in his gas tank?
Right. The same issue arises in a variety of ways, such as the use of the color red by the media to define Republican voters, and the color blue assigned to Democrats, which was a deliberate ploy on the part of the media, for obvious reasons.
But it is so far gone, it is never going to be changed back, and complaining about it is like barking at the moon.
Same with the use of the word “liberal” to describe milder forms of Leftists, though the word used to describe conservatives in the distant past, and was appropriated by the Left to confuse people. Same thing.
“Assault weapons” is my favorite I think because I would love to rifle butt my ex-business partner in the head!
yes it is moving maybe not in relationship to us but it is still hauling ass

We drive on park ways
We park in drive ways
A pet peeve of mine. It is a purposeful misleading label at this point. It presents construct of a limited resource and it’s a lie.
