The world's richest man took to Twitter last night to jokingly tease a new potential takeover of Coca Cola - and it didn't long for Scots to jump on it.
Elon Musk never seems to be out the news at the minute after he clinched a deal to buy Twitter for a cool $44 billion cash on Monday.
The world's richest man then took to the platform to jokingly tease a new potential takeover target, saying that he is "buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in" in reference to the soft drink’s original recipe and its use as a tonic for various ailments.
The headline-grabbing tweet has racked up over 2.5m likes since being posted late last night, and it hasn't taken long for Glaswegians - and Scots alike - to jump on it for their own particular interests.
To a tee they are calling on the Tesla and SpaceX CEO to go one better than Coca Cola and dish out the cash to buy our beloved Irn Bru - and put the sugar back in while he is at it.
One person responded to his viral tweet with: "No, all joking aside... if you could buy Irn Bru and put the sugar back in... that be great. Thanks, Scotland."
Another responded with: "Gonnae buy Irn Bru and put the sugar back in thanks chick", while a third wrote: "I'd just be happy if you bought Irn Bru to put the sugar back in".
Joining them was another person desperate to see the full-sugar Irn Bru cans return to our shelves, who tweeted: "Can you please buy Irn Bru please Mr Musk" and then followed it up with: "pls pls pls".
And fellow fan of our other national drink suggested that if Musk did purchase the girders nectar it would make him Scottish royalty, tweeting: "[Elon Musk] Becomes king of Scotland by bringing back the Irn-Bru original recipe."
Nothing better than to drive liberals crazy.
I now a few Scots who use it as a mixer.
I’ve noticed a change in twitter already - good to see!
Better he should buy out Otsuka Pharmaceutical and change the name of their “gatorade’ drink Pocari Sweat to, well, ANYTHING else.
For a real knee-slapping guffaw, switch on MSNBC! But be careful. You’ll be rolling on the floor laughing! Even more than usual.
The thrifty Scots don’t waste letters in words where the letters aren’t needed, see ‘Whisky’ and ‘Irn Bru’.
LOL Irn Bru..tastes like bubblegum and rust...do not spill it on your clothes
Foxon Park makes excellent sodas. Have been by the bottling plant in East Haven a few times to bring home a few cases to Massachusetts. My daughter’s friend like the retro glass bottles. Their Iron Brew tastes like a very sweet plum juice; my daughter likes it.The Foxon Park Grape, Kola, and Cream sodas are second to none. The UK Irn Bru tastes like pink bubble gum and is truly an acquired taste.
